Politicians being politicians

Recommended Posts

In a classic case of slimy political manuevering, rep. Dick Armey just snuck a provision into the Homeland Security Act that protected a huge pharmaceuticals company against lawsuits from a product of theirs that may have caused autism in children. Can't have big political contributors being sued by whiny parents with kids that just act funny, not if we want to stop terrorism! Next thing you know, they'll want campaign reform, and Osama's not far behind if that happens.

That man also tried to sneak language into a weapons bill that would force Belo Corp., a smallish media company and owner of the Dallas Morning News, to sell one of its properties.

Armey blames the Dallas Morning News for his son's loss in the congressional race to replace him.

I guess he's on his way out and has nothing to lose.

No.. .the Democrat running in that district was a sore loser... that entire district seems to like drama with its politics. Stoping traffic on interstate to wave banners saying vote for me to get reduced traffic jams, all the republicans turning against the retireing incumbent's son in his bid for the nomination... physical threats from one canidate to the other... All were drama queens... all but the eventual winner, he was actually liked by the voters and the press.
Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

That kind of BS is what defines slimy politicians. They should require that anything in a bill should at least relate to the main focus of the bill. WTF do these lawsuits have to do with the Homeland Security Act?

This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where the town is going to be hit by a comet.

Speaker of the House: Then it is unanimous, we are going to approve the bill to evacuate the town of Springfield in the great state of --
Congressman: Wait a minute, I want to tack on a rider to that bill: $30 million of taxpayer money to support the perverted arts.
Speaker: All in favor of the amended Springfield-slash-pervert bill?
[everyone boos]
Speaker: Bill defeated. [bangs gavel]
Kent Brockman (in TV studio): I've said it before and I'll say it again: democracy simply doesn't work.

What does the Homeland Security Act have to do with Security is a better question and an even better question is what else is in that bill cause Armey's crap is small potatoes compared to some of the other stuff in it. I guess being "safe" is better then being free....NOT!!!!
