Deuce 1 #28 November 18, 2002 Hey, Viking, if you're thinking about putting the camera you showed me at Perris on your head, think again. That very tough Nikon SLR is seriously heavy, and you'd need a Betts helmet to survive a rough opening with it up there. But don't sell it anyway. Scoby 0 #32 November 18, 2002 You could always get an N55 body for a helmet cam. It's like a pound lighter than your F100 and you wouldn't feel as bad if you busted it...
Viking 0 #33 November 18, 2002 yuck! i wouldn't touch the n55 with a ten foot pole on a boom crane!!!!I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin
Scoby 0 #34 November 18, 2002 Er, not as your main camera, as a helmet camera. None of the build quality and features that make your camera much better than the N55 will count in the slightest when it's on your head. Given the same lens, it will take exactly the same photograph.

Viking 0 #36 November 19, 2002 not if the lighting situation fools the meter into under or over exposing the shot!!! Plus if it can't get to the next frame of film quick enough the shot is lost.I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin
Scoby 0 #37 November 19, 2002 I can't say that I noticed any difference in the number of incorrectly exposed shots going from the N70 to the F100. I can't comment on the N55, but can it really be that much worse? As for drive speed, I can see that being a problem if you're the triggy happy sort. But still, wouldn't you rather have a pound less on your head and not have to worry about a $1500 body?
Viking 0 #38 November 19, 2002 I have yet to have a problem with my f100 being tricked. My N60 on the other hand would get fooled in both metering and autofocus. I think a pound more to get the pics i want is worth it.I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin
PhreeZone 20 #39 November 19, 2002 >I think a pound more to get the pics i want is worth it. Tack 6 pounds on for the video, stills, mounts, battteries sights, cables, switches and everything else and you'll be begging to lose as much weight as possible after a hard opening. Untill your getting published or for 99.5% of your skydiving needs a nice cheap RebelX will do quite nicely. All the fancy toys on a camera are useless if you can't touch it. Auto meter and autofocus are bad juju on freefall setups since they are way mroe prone to error then being a smart photographer and doing it manual. I've seen better pics out of a simple point and shoot then I have out of some one that was shoooting a top of the line camera since they were relying on the camera to be the brains of the operation.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
