My turn!! Ducky's car wreck!

Recommended Posts

So things finally started to slow down at work, just giving me time to breathe. I take advantage of the situation and get an extra hour or 2 of sleep. Heading to work around 9:30am and some yoyo pulls out in front of me.:o:o

A cement truck I had been following moved over to the right turn lane to turn into a subdivision. As I passed (staying in my lane) a little Mitsubishi Eclipse appears in front of me from nowhere. He was turning left and I guess didn't think that there was another lane of traffic beyond the turning cement truck. Needless to say my big Dodge Pickup creamed his poor little go-cart.

He had the car all tricked out with custom paint, wheels, exhaust, lights etc. He said he only had liability insurance. Poor schmuck his car is totaled, I mean completely screwed. The entire front end/engine wqas moved sideways by a foot. My truck has fairly severe damage to the front right bumper, but not totaled I don't think.

He had no dispute w/ the cops and admitted being at fault. His insurance company had me in a rental truck w/in 4 hours. Good thing it has unlimited mileage cuz I'm heading to the DZ this weekend come hell or high water.B|

I was a lil freaked out cuz I have had some bad accidents in the past and have really changed my way of driving recently. I am very careful these days, but there was nothing I could do in this instance. I was wearing a seatbelt, but for some odd reason my airbag did not deploy. Of course I was only 2 miles from home as the stats say I should have been. :o I so damn glad I'm not hurt and the other guy is very lucky. If he had been a few feet further out in the road I would have t-boned him right in the driver door, OUCH!

The funnest part of it all was getting put on hold by the machine that answered 911 when I called. Then we waited 20 minutes til a passing Sherrif's office car stopped and directed traffic, plus another 25 minutes til the police and wrecker showed up. 45 minutes for police assistance? that's just nuts if ask me.

Glad to hear that things went well after the accident and nobody was seriously injured. One thing that always freaks me out about a side collision is this.... when you were plowing into the guy, did your eyes meet for a split second or two while you were pushing him outta the way ?? I wonder what the reaction would be... would it be "Oh shit" then "Muther F@#$ER!!" or "Muther F@#$ER" then "Oh Shit" LOL :S

His windows were very dark tinted and he swears he NEVER saw me til I hit him. My doors were jammed so it took me a minute to get out and him as well i was worried he might be seriously hurt.

Glad to hear everyone wasn't hurt. That's always a good thing.

I remember getting creamed from behind (I was in a '73 Super Beetle) by a Toyota pickup. The impact was so great that I rear ended a Trans Am in front of me. I only had liability, and the jackass who hit me didn't have any insurance what so ever. The best I could do was to make some humor out of it: Since the 3 people involved were 2 hispanics and a chinese, and me getting sanwiched between the 2 - I made a dish to mark the end of the bad luck: A Tofu Torta!:)
In light of your accident, isn't it ironic that an Eclipse's view was obstructed, and the both of you Dodged serious injury?;)

Glad to hear you're ok!

Have you ever thought about putting a Ranch Hand front end replacement on your truck. It would save you from damaging your truck in a lot of the little accidents that happen.

edit:

I attatched a pic of a front end replacement. I've got friends who have exploded deer off the front of their truck (hitting one doing 70-ish mph) with out damage to the front end of their truck.:)

Good to hear you are OK. I also had a near death experience today.

I was driving along at 60mph on the highway behind a dump truck when a 20 lb bearing falls off the dump truck. It bounces on the the road and then straight through my front windshield right in front of the passenger's seat. Luckily the glass deflected the bearing enough that it only hit my passenger's arm (unbelievably it didn't break his arm) and then hit the back seat. If it would have went to the right about four inches my passenger would have been dead. If it would have went left about a foot I would be dead. The scariest thing is if my kids would have been in the back seat, where they normally ride, one of them would be dead now. I feel very lucky today.

And people believe skydiving is dangerous!:P

I had something similar happen in the summer. One of those trucks that carry away cars that have been squashed-ready for recycling. Well... a drum brake fell off, and it was going on a straight line to me. I had to pull a "Jeff Gordon in Sears Point Raceway" manuever on that one.

For a non injury accident thats not bad really, your semi-low priority.

No shit man! There was this one morning on northbound I-405. My honey and I were both struttin' 5mph in the HOV (high occupancy vehicle / carpool to those unfamilar) lane. So there these jackass motorcycle cops (plural mind you) by the HOV shoulder waiting to net some poor f@#$. No more than 50 ft away on the far right lane, a fender bender had happened (probably within 5 minutes I'd say because I witnessed the occupants just get out of their cars). And none of these badge wielding mafia of a donut junky did anything to help.>:(
