quade 4 #7 November 20, 2002 The problem I have with Marchinko's stuff is that you really only get one point of view. Clancy novels are -epic- to say the least and show the story from quite a few different angles.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Deuce 1 #8 November 20, 2002 I liked the most recent one, but the one before that was just a little too preoccupied with "japanese sausage". That light gun thing in the one where the airliner is crashed into, ahem, the capitol, was pretty James Bondish and cool. Marcinko seems to relish the violence he engaged in in his books, while Clancy seems more rational about the need for violence to solve some problems. LouDiamond 1 #9 November 21, 2002 Having meet the man several times and talked with him. He is indeed very outspoken and quite an ass..and he knows it, he actually uses it to provoke responses. He was inovative in his time but now he is just another has been telling war stories that get bigger and bigger as he gets older. His ideas where cutting edge at the time and for some extent have influenced how some things are done today but most people in the community think he's a joke, just ask any SEAL what they think about him. Last time I saw him he was talking about his being a tactical advisor for a computer video game and getting a toy doll of himself made. He also has a small radio show on the AM dial somewhere that he broadcasts from his house. He has started to believe his own lies to some extent so one has to take what he says and reduce it by 95% to get the real deal."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
VectorBoy 0 #10 November 21, 2002 I only liked the first book the rest of um are too matt helm ish . I have his half hour video show about red cell its good for what it is. Clancey paints a broader picture but I enjoy his non fiction works better also.

Definately need to check out the most recent, it takes Jack Ryan back to pre Cardinal in the Kremiln days and post Patriot Games. Book is called Red Rabbit and is one of the fastest Clancy novels yet, from teh beginning it is fast paced, no more half the book before it picks up I'm not afriad of dying, I'm afraid of never really living- Erin Engle

I have not been able to make good progress with "The Bear and the Dragon" but I love Clancy. If anyone is looking to any other alternatives I strongly recommend anything by Robert Ludlum, especially his older stuff like: "The Bourne Identity" and "The Rhinemann Exchange" (<< That's my favorite, very, very chilling) and "The Osterman Weekend"So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! AggieDave 6 #15 November 21, 2002 After Green Team, each book seemed the same... Read "Force Recon Diaries, 1969" that's a hell of a read too.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Guest #16 November 21, 2002 Quotepick up anything by Richard Marcinko, he created seal team six, his series is engrossing "Rogue Warrior" was a great read, but I'd like to get other people's opinions about his court martial. He made it seem very much like the Navy was just out to get him. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd like to know if there was more to it. I haven't read any of his fiction. Years ago (93-94) , G.Gordon Liddy called Marcinko a liar. I'm not certain if this was in relation to his court martial. I gave up on Clancy after "Executive Orders". It's still sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. Perhaps it is my reading tastes have changed."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
