Michele's kitty

Recommended Posts

Michele,I had a cat for 17 years that has lived with my mom for the past 10 years.I dont really consider myself a "cat person" ,but,When we have a companion, like a cat, that has been around for any period of time,it is not easy to see them hurting, especially when they are old.It is a member of the family.I sincerely hope all goes well with your little bitch kitty, and you too.

My two girls, Bella and Dennis (I'm still in shock) are recovering from getting spayed, so I'm right there with you on this. It's hard to see your kitties feeling bad (and even worse seeing them with a satellite dish around their necks).

I don't know why, but I found this line to be very funny. Thanks for the laugh. Michele, I hope you had a good chuckle from it.:D

You know that in respect for what you are going through and what Bitch is going through, we have all been holding back on the "pussy" jokes. So, that kitty better get better so we can let loose!

I tried to stop but my hands just typed this of their own accord: Johnny Carson was supposed to have Zha Zha (spelling?) Gabor on the Tonight Show. She brought her cat out with her, and when she asked Johnny if he wanted to pet her pussy, he is supposed to have replied "Sure, take the damn cat off of your lap!".

I'm really sorry, I just couldn't help myself from posting this.

Hey, all!

She's home...(thank you God!) She's less three teeth, part of her jaw (which should grow back, but may not because she's so old), and with a clean sinus. She has lots of meds to take for the next 14 days, and she's only supposed to have soft foods for the next 5 days. She's got 12 stitches and a shaved neck, and a satilite collar in case she annoys the incision.

They tried to put her under intravenously, and now all the vets' staff understands why she's named the way she is...so they had to let her system clear, and then gassed her with pediatric stuff. Seems like they'd give her the gas, take the mask/cone off her to operate, and then have to give her more, and then do it again, over and over until the procedures were done. That's why it took so long.

The vet says that if she can beat this infection, she has some time left. Other than this, she's pretty healthy, for 16.

MY GIRL IS HOME!!!!!!!!!!!! (And in my lap as we speak).

Thanks for the hugs and the vibes...me 'n The Bitch needed them, and appreciate them very very much...

HEY!! that's great to hear Michele!! I can understand the problem about gas vs shots. Whenever my dog had operations done, I always insisted on the gas.. it's called Isoflorine (sp) gas and it is much safer to the animals's nervous system than a local injection, plus it can be regulated much better - which is what it sounds like they did to your cat -on then off, then on, then off...etc...

Hope the Bitch makes a full recovery and I'm sure that your nerves are much better now that you have her back.

. . . 16 . . .

Dayum!

I musta missed that somewhere higher in the thread, but 16? Do you have any idea how old that is for a cat? (Well, actually, I suppose you do.)

Glad everything is ok with you and yours.

Best.

Quade,

16 is a bit on the old side for a cat, but really, they can live til they are 20 or so, especially with "mamas" like Michele!

Michele, I'm glad everything went well. If she doesn't want to eat the first couple of days, try chicken stock or gravy (the kind you get in a jar). That worked for Gizmo when he had some extractions, and nothing else did! Just make sure she eats a little, and drinks plenty if water.

The vet said something similar...salt free chicken stock over wet food, heated in the microwave kind of like stew. If she won't eat that, try the same thing with the dry food. And if she still won't eat that, I will try a salt-free gravy.

Penny was nearly 19 when she died (brain cancer), Tron was 17 (congestive heart failure). 16 is old, but as long as the atibiotics work and I can support her system healing, she'll be fine. Her blood work was really good (with the above exception), and she's starting to be her bitchy self again. Still clumsy and logy, but growling at me. Man, that's great to hear!

Charlotte and Esse are so happy to have her home. Esse tried to groom her, but BK whapped her and crawled into my lap. And there she is staying...I put her down to get some wine, and as soon as I sat again, plop! There she was, in my lap again.

This has been a tough Friday. Wish I could jump (I need the stress release), but not this weekend...

(Edit: Quade, 16 really is old...and I'm sorry you lost your furball at 10. That's early.)

Quade,

My vet starts treating cats like "geriatrics" when they are around 8. All cats are different and some are just meant to live longer than others. I sorry you lost yours at what is still a relatively young age:(! 16 IS old, but not all that unusual. I guess it just depends....... I think the "mutt kitties" are heartier than the pure breds, and pampered housecats also have a better shot at longevity than their alley cat cousins. But heart disease and cancer can get all of them, just like us!

I have an 8 year old cat with a heart condition. He takes medicine, and you would never know he was sick, especially when you see him practicing wrestling moves on his little "sister"! But at some point, he'll start showing signs of heart failure and I know I'll have to let him go sooner than I want to! I'm hoping for at least a few more years, though!

Wasn't on all day so just got around to seeing this thread now -- the three of us are very glad that Bitch Kitty came through. For the record that is myself, Lynn, and Bugs, our 18 year old kitty.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Good kitty! You show Michele who's boss ;) stay on her lap all night and knead your claws in her leg to punish her for such indignity!

So glad to hear it all went well. Spoil her rotten.

She's being really spoiled tonight. She got some of my dinner (salmon), got a little milk (I know it's bad for her...but a little won't kill her), and is getting lots of hugs and cuddles. She doesn't knead me, just nuzzles my hand. Right now she's got her motor going so loudly! Gawd, it's good. It's usually annoying. But it's good tonight.

Thanks, Gale...and everyone. You all made a hard day a little easier.

Michele
