deaffreeflyer 0 #1 November 24, 2002 Many of my whuffo mates would try a bungee jump but wouldn't try a skydive. I asked them why they won't doing it - most reponses were "I ain't jump from 12k feet cos it's too high!". They asked me why I wouldn't do a bungee jump - I told them it's too low and scary than skydiving. They thought I was crazy! I haven't done it yet - I have no idea what it's like but it kinda put me off cos I heard few stories - back stretch injury, blind (bloody vessel burst inside eyeballs when elastric stuff pull u back up) etc... Do u reckon I should have a go?
freeflir29 0 #2 November 24, 2002 I don't have ANY desire to bungee jump. Just doesn't look like fun. I'd rather BASE than bungee any day and I'm not really in a hurry to do a BASE jump either.
ECVZZ 0 #3 November 24, 2002 Normally I'd say no, but when I seriously think about it, it'd depend on what I was jumping from and the altitude. If you've got a hot air balloon, a rig, and 9 or 10k of altitude I'd do it. From 100' AGL...are you outta your freakin mind??? Greg
jtval 0 #4 November 24, 2002 done it before and will again next week. Its kinda weak but I won a free jump($54 value) at our boogie last month! narcimund 0 #5 November 24, 2002 It's about as interesting to me as any carnival ride. If I was there eating corn dogs and admiring the 4-H displays anyway, and the line was short, and they didn't want more than a couple of dollars, and the equipment looked clean and well maintained, then I might go for it. Unless another ride looked better. First Class Citizen Twice Over
sunshine 2 #6 November 24, 2002 I was gonna do one like 10 years ago at a fair, but they were shutting down in 2 hours and weren't letting anyone else sign up. I was so pissed. Now, there is no way i would ever wanna do one. Funny how being a skydiver changes things. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! ECVZZ 0 #8 November 24, 2002 Quote ($54 value) Damn JT, thats exactly 3 jumps at Skydance! Who'd pay that on purpose for 1 bungee jump? To answer my own question...obviously not a skydiver! Greg
QuickDraw 0 #9 November 24, 2002 I have done 3, all from a crane. I would put it in the first tandem bracket, maybe worse for the fear factor. I would recommend one. -- Hope you don't die. -- I'm fucking winning
lippy 918 #10 November 24, 2002 It'd be different...I think I'd try it if there was no DZ for miles and miles. Otherwise, it'd a waste of jump money IMO.I got nuthin
PLFKING 4 #11 November 24, 2002 I did one about 6 years ago....a crane jump from about 150 ft. That doesn't look too high now when i'm on final, but I hadn't skydived at that point in life, and it looked like FOREVER to the ground. Closed my eyes, left, then opened them immediately -- the ground rush almost gave me a heart attack. Even my first static-line wasn't as scary as that. I'd probably do another....but there's no way I'd be a tandem passenger now ! I like having the parachute on MY back. Don

skygod7777 0 #13 November 24, 2002 i've done it, but it was a while ago. i did it in tennessee. but it was over a large air-filled crash pad. i wouldn't do it with out something like that under me. i just don't like the idea of the rubber band saving me from hitting the ground. later
kevin922 0 #14 November 24, 2002 Anyone have any statistics on injuries / fatalaties associated with bungee? I am kinda in the same mindset of "i pack my chute, I know it'll open - and if for some unforseen reason it doesnt I have a second chance" type thing.. but what are the stats? Zenister 0 #15 November 24, 2002 did 2. one just for the experience and the 2nd to make sure it wasnt a fluke.. my .02 Booooring i'd been rappelling for years before (hadnt started skydiving at the time) and it was generally agreed that anyones corpse would bungee just as well as a live subject.. and for the price? forget it.____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. dunesurfer 0 #17 November 25, 2002 I've done 11 over the years at hacketts place in vegas. After you have done it once its only $25. Did a toe hang last time I was there with a water touch that dunked me headfirst to my waist. Its not as much fun as a skydive, but its a kick anyway
Iflyme 0 #18 November 25, 2002 I bungee jumped long before I started skydiving ... at the time it was a blast, but now, looking back ... I'll stick to skydiving!
Scottyb 0 #19 November 25, 2002 My wife & I have done a few bungee jumps from a railroad bridge in Hometown Pa. a few years ago. At the time someone said bungee was better than skydiving. We didn't know because we had never been to the blue skies. Today I don't think you could pay us to do it when we can jump out of a perfectly good airplaneScott & Teri
Guest #20 November 25, 2002 Absolutely not! You don't know where that bungee has been! Seriously, you don't know the condition of that thing, whereas I know exactly what kind of shape my rig is in - I know its condition. In short, it's a matter of trust. If I were to make a bungee jump, I'd have to put a lot of faith in something I haven't seen (which has no regulation at all). "The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." Skyrose7 0 #21 November 25, 2002 well, if it came to a choice between jumping or bungee, obviously I would jump. I would like to try it just for kicks though.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mind is like a parachute--it works better when it is open. JUMP. MaryRose
DivaSkyChick 0 #22 November 25, 2002 I've done about thirty bungee jumps, all before I started skydiving. I've bungeed out of hot air balloons, off cranes and bridges and a did a bunch of catapault jumps in Thailand (Cheap!) I used to say that bungee jumping was scarier than skydiving. You're just so damn close to the ground! Jumping out of the skydiving out of the hot air balloon at Eloy and a helicopter at Elsinore changed that, tho. Now THAT was scary! Wooooohoooooooooooo! Brisco 0 #23 November 25, 2002 My dad and I did a bungee at the Hackett place in Vegas. We both thought it was pretty cool, but for my money that ride on top of the Stratosphere hotel - I think it's called "the Big Shot" - kind of a reverse bungee jump where they shoot you striaght up about 100 feet or so - was much better than the bungee jump. As a funny side note to the bungee thing - they video tape every jump (probably for liability reasons in case something goes wrong) and you can buy the video if you want to. Because my dad was over 70 years old at the time, he got the whole package - jump & video - for free. Naturally, they reuse the video tapes that people don't buy. When we got home from Vegas we were showing dad's video to the family and after we saw dad's jump we were talking and forgot to shut off the vcr. All of a sudden more video pops up of a guy named Nick about to do a jump. Nick tried and tried but just couldn't work up the nerve to jump. I don't know exactly how long poor Nick was up on the tower trying to muster his courage to jump since they kept stopping and restarting the tape, but it was daylight when the clip started and well after dark when he finally gave up and took the elevator back down. It was really pretty funny. The bungee workers were starting to get pissed and one guy yelled "C'mon Nick, fucking jump!" Brisco Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. Scoby 0 #24 November 25, 2002 I did three bridge jump a couple of years ago. It was definitely scarier than skydiving. The ankle jump in particular was freaky...like suicide without the death part.
