Slappie 9 #51 November 26, 2002 Cajun fried Turkey is the best! I prefer it to baked boring bland turkey... I've been alone for along time on the holidays. I know how lonely it can get. With my mom only 1hr away I usually hang with her. This year I'll be with bubbles an her family I think. I'm more of a loner when it comes to family stuff an don't really like to visit. But is I'm "nagged" enough I'll usually go.. ONLY IF THEY HAVE BEER!! PLFXpert 0 #53 November 26, 2002 Not sure if anyone mentioned this b/c I haven't read all the posts but Skydive Deland always has Turkey Day and Santa Day feasts for everyone who wants to come. They have a sign-up sheet for food and a lot of skydivers who live on the DZ go and quite a few who don't live on the DZ, too. BZ and I went last year after we went to my family's house and we'll go again this year after we go to my family's house again. My paren'ts are retired and travel a LOT so they bought a house 5 minutes from the DZ for me to stay/shower when I want and so when they're in town, we can conveniently see each other. They are so practical So, we'll have Turkey Day with them around noon and then off to the DZ to see the rest of our family. Everyone should see if their DZ offers such a thing. I think it's wonderful spending the holidays w/ my skydiving family. They are the greatest family I've ever had! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. SpeedRacer 1 #58 November 26, 2002 it's not fried like fried chicken. You basically stick the bird in a frier and it cooks it only about an hour. but its not crispy or greasy, in fact it tastes a lot like roasted, only it gets done quicker. Trick is: trying not to cook it too fast so that its done on the outside & still raw further in Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
PLFKING 4 #59 November 26, 2002 Last year, we stuck the turkey in the deep-fryer with peanut oil. Took about $20 worth of oil to cook it, but it was the best bird I ever et. Don

skymama 37 #63 November 26, 2002 You haven't lived until you've had a fried turkey, Muenkel! We've done it for years, ever since we lived in Louisiana. Another thing that's great about it, is that it cooks in about 45 minutes for a large bird. It's so juicy, and with the flavors that you inject in the bird beforehand, it's very delicious. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

PLFXpert 0 #69 November 26, 2002 My father's side of the family is SO country, but I've never had fried turkey, either.I've had fried okra though and fried green tomatoes and fried everything else. I grew up on grits for breakfast. Like someone else said, I like em' with cheddar cheese Haven't eaten them in a LONG time, though. My mom's side of the family is all German so, naturally, I know a good sausage when I see one I don't eat many animals, though.
