Sonic 0 #1 November 28, 2002 Before I install linux, I want to have a good selection of software at hand. What do you suggest, and where can I download it. Free software if poss lol. I'm already downloading OpenOffice.----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone
indyz 1 #2 November 29, 2002 Umm, what do you want to do? I mean, I love this program, but I doubt you will care very much for it. Must-haves, though, are a bit easier: Mozilla for web, mutt for email, and OpenOffice, KOffice, or AbiWord for word processing (even though real men use LaTeX). MPlayer will play almost any video except DVD (which it actually will play, but there are better solutions) and Sorenson QuickTime (which, again, it will play, but it requires a nasty hack and CVS code). It is also often difficult for newbies to install. Make sure to read the docs thouroughly before trying anything. Your distro will probably come with some or all of these, but Mozilla and MPlayer have both put out recent releases, and the upgrades are recommended. Jimbo 0 #3 November 29, 2002 Quotemutt for email I agree that mutt might be the best Unix mail client available, but I think it might be a bit difficult for a newbie. Less feature rich, but significantly easier to use is PINE. Something the original poster might want to consider. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. AndyMan 7 #4 November 29, 2002 I'd go one step farther and say 'Evolution', it's an outlook knock-off, minus the bugs. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
