it seems like you're basing your opinion on a trip 10 years ago, and purlease, if you wanted to go out in a hotel, I rest my point.

Well....being that's the only time I have been there....what else could I base it on? ;) As far as going out.....True...I didn't get out and travel the country side. I couldn't...I was there to make bombs fall from the sky. Not tour Egypt. Second reason I didn't get out much...Terrorism. I'm sure it wasn't any huge leap for most "average" Egyptians to figure out I was in the US military. I was walking around with a big TARGET on my back. To make matters worse.....They didn't even let me carry a weapon off duty. A couple weeks before I went there a busload of German tourists was ambushed at the big museum. Some of those nice friendly Egyptians decided to open fire with Ak's and killed quite a few of them. 2 weeks after I left there one of those nice outdoor cafes was bombed. I watched were I went and who I associated with while I was there. ;)

Arab/Egyptian......Yes...I had forgotten about that. They are quite a nationalist bunch there.

Well, let's see, as background info for you. That was a terrorist attack, and I think by now, you should be able to place that word. And not only tourists, but also a not insignificant number of police and passers by lost their lives there. For a country whose only income is tourism, you can imagine what that will do.
And ya know what? Those terrorists came from the Sudan. And you know what else? Although it may be only a rumour, the guess was they were trained by some US organization.
That is like the most inappropriate remark.

Walking is such a brag. I preffer driving. Driving down deserted streets is great, but does not happen too often, mostly it's driving in a traffic jam. Unless you are at the DZ and drive from the tent to the bathroom. Yes I like driving from the tent to the bathroom, all 90 feet of itB|

I'd feel a loohhooot safer walkin down a deserted street in Cairo

I stick out like a sore thumb there. Maybe if I looked more like an Egyptian and fit in a little better I wouldn't have felt that way. However, I do have a hilarious story about using bits of several differen't languages to mislead the cab driver into thinking my friends and I were some sort of Europeans instead of Americans. It was sooo funny. The guy couldn't figure out where we were from so he just kept his mouth shut. B|

I don't remember the traffic being that bad. I do however remember the "rules of the road" Basically there seemed to be none. Except drive on the right and honk your horn A LOT when going through traffic circles. B| 5 minutes from Cairo West the bus driver almost ran over a cop. I was laughing like hell until I thought about why he wouldn't stop....[:/]
