dropdeded 0 #1 November 30, 2002 Ive heard that your diet can either speed up or slow your recovery from an injury. In my case its a broken bone. The cast is off but the leg still hurts.I am taking calcium but this is at the point that I will do almostanything to speed the healing so I can get back in the air. Any suggestions? dropdeded pcss#26------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
AndyMan 7 #2 November 30, 2002 I also started taking a multi-vitamin when I hurt my ankle. Not for any particular reason, but I figured it couldn't hurt. I figured there was more then just calcium to strong bones. I've kept with the multi-vitamin after healing, too. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Deuce 1 #3 November 30, 2002 I take DHEA, a multi (Flintstones chewable), and Ginko. The DHEA is the only thing I really notice that works. Impact workouts increase bone density, I think you may just have to walk through the pain. I got back in the air yesterday, probably shouldn't have. I did finally figure out how to land on one leg. Good luck!
AndyMan 7 #4 November 30, 2002 QuoteI did finally figure out how to land on one leg. Careful with that... I hurt my other ankle at Rantoul playing that game. Damn that hurt! If you're going to jump, resist the urge to jump your normal gear. Keep jumping the big-assed stuff. Beg, borrow, or steal but keep it at 1:1. The funny part is that even when I had TWO fucked up ankles I kept jumping.... but at least was jumping a big-assed specter 210... _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. christoofar 0 #5 November 30, 2002 The most hilarious thing I saw at Rantoul was a boatload of jumpers in a skyvan planning a RW dive around each others' injuries... ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Michele 1 #7 November 30, 2002 Hi, Ed... I had heard somewhere (but can't substantiate it) that calcium tablets do not absorb as well as milk, cheese, and other calcium laden products. This will not help you if you are lactose intolerant, though. There are several veggies which have a high source of calcium, as well. You may want to check it out. Also, caffeine depletes the body of B1 and calcium, so you may want to increase your clacium intake, or decrease your caffeine one. Again, I can't substantiate it, but have heard this over the years... AndyMan 7 #9 November 30, 2002 Also, aprently smoking depletes your bones of calcium... so it might be a good time to quit if you do smoke. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Deuce 1 #14 November 30, 2002 Quote yeah when people say that...I worry......but then again...keeps me in business... Well, you gotta push a little to get better. I am a huge advocate of walking. I finally got my weight under control and heart rate where I want it from walking. When I was younger I would binge-exercise with running and weight lifting. But then, there would be the inevitable injury and it'd be two steps forward and one step back. So now I walk every day for at least 20 minutes, and use ankle and dumbell weights when I want some additional stress (good kind). Dropdeded, try walking and pizza. If you blot off the grease from pizza, it's really a pretty good high protein, high calcium food!

skycat 0 #16 November 30, 2002 From Mothernature.com on Calcium-- -- Most dietary calcium comes from dairy products. The myth that calcium from dairy products is not absorbed is not supported by scientific research. Other good sources include sardines, canned salmon, green leafy vegetables, and tofu. -- Calcium competes for absorption with a number of other minerals. Therefore, people taking calcium for more than a few weeks should also take a multimineral supplement. Vitamin D’s most important role is maintaining blood levels of calcium. Therefore, many doctors recommend that those supplementing with calcium also supplement with 400 IU of vitamin D per day. Animal studies have shown that essential fatty acids (EFAs) increase calcium absorption from the gut, in part by enhancing the effects of vitamin D and reducing loss of calcium in the urine. Lysine supplementation increases the absorption of calcium and may reduce its excretion. As a result, some researchers believe that lysine may eventually be shown to have a role in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.Fly it like you stole it!
