Skydive Dallas Thanksgiving Boogie

Recommended Posts

Well it looks like I'll be hoping in my car after my early volleyball game tonight headed for Texas and the Skydive Dallas Thanksgiving Boogie. I believe I will be seeing "Heftee" there (a sort delinquent DZ.COMer I've been talking with the last month or so) and I was just wondering if there were any other DZ.COMers I should be looking out for. I know AggieDave mentioned he would be there on Thursday, but I likely won't be arriving at the DZ until late Thursday afternoon or early evening.

Well I know most of you out there don't care, but Skydive Dallas is going to have to wait for another day before I can visit it. :(

Last night at 8:00 pm I left the Denver area headed east into Kansas before intending to turn south into Oklahoma and finally attend the Skydive Dallas Thanksgiving boogie. But a little more than four hours into the trip I experience a weird humming sound coming from my engine (I believe it was the cooling fan going bonkers) and I also noticed that my engine temperature went from a normal setting to a very cold setting (but I didn't experience any power loss and the oil pressure guage was fine). So I pulled over at the first exit, got a room at a motel and intended to get some much needed sleep. But I couldn't sleep and three hours later I was back on the road heading east, but this engine noise was spooking me so I turned around after twenty minutes and drove the five hours back home to Boulder, CO. It looks like I over reacted to my fears of breaking down, but I didn't want to get stranded in rural Kansas, Oklahoma or Texas with a sick car (especially on a holiday weekend).

So here I am, back home with a motel bill for three hours spent tossing and turning, some gas bills and close to 1000 miles driven in rural Colorado and Kansas in the dead of night and I haven't slept in more than 24 hours. Well at least I have a case of beer cooling in the fridge (the case I was bringing to share with the Dallas people). I guess I should get some sleep now and drink some beer when I get up. :o

And it looks like I'll be jumping at good ole' Mile Hi this weekend. :)

Hi Steve,

I'm visiting family down here in Texas (Arlington to be exact) and didn't bring my rig! I believed the weather forecast for early in the week, and it as going to be cold and windy. So I decided to do the "other" relative work -- the kind you do without a rig. Looks like great weather for the weekend in Colorado, so hope you got some good jumps in..

Hi DJan

The weather in Colorado has been good this weekend (and it's not over). I got five jumps in at Mile-Hi on Friday and another four in today (funny how that works). And I'll be back at the DZ tomorrow for more. :$

By the way ... I voted for you in the USPA elections, even though we've never met. ;)
