Dec 2 (Interfax) - A group of Russian parachutists plans to skydive at the South Pole from a hot-air balloon, for the first time in Russia's history. "A hot-air balloon will rise in the Antarctic from December 7 to 22, from which the parachute jumpers will skydive at the South Pole," a member of the Russian Antarctic expedition told Interfax on Monday. The expedition, led by well-known parachute jumper Alexander Begak, will thus mark the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg.
bivar 0 #2 December 2, 2002 Two guys from my DZ did a tandem at the south pole in 1997. They jumped at the north pole the next year. http://home.online.no/~trjacob/english/----------------------------------------
swarley 0 #3 December 2, 2002 Thanks BI, Interesting Page, -50c is just way too cool for me. Ha. The challenges of launching a hotair balloon at those temps must be formidable. I would think the canopies would tear also. Look forward to seeing their results. Steve
