kevin922 0 #1 December 4, 2002 Okay, get this - an old friend who just moved here to va just msged me and told me she has 2 airline tickets that expire this month to anywhere in the US. Asked me if I wanted to go with her, to CALIFORNIA! (she said vegas but evidentally the ticket won't allow her to get back from vegas.. anyway). Fly into los angeles and fly out of sacremento. I'm trying to figure out what the closest DZ is for that.. been clicking around on the dropzone listing but can't really figure what the best dz for that area is. Thanks!! Sonic 0 #2 December 4, 2002 LA is Perris and Elsinore's territory.----------------------------------- It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone
Cornholio 0 #3 December 4, 2002 QuoteFly into los angeles and fly out of sacremento. Well, Sac is about 500 miles north of LA, and you will pass through northern california so you can hit several drop zones if you can hitch a ride from LA to Sac. In LA, you can hit Perris or Elsinore, then hit Taft on the way up HWY5, then go to Hollister off 101, then Byron off 580, Skydance off 80/505 and then Sac is about 30 minutes away from Skydance. Bring lots of cash and hit em all!!! Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! Michele 1 #4 December 4, 2002 Perris and Elsinore, as stated. But it also sounds like you have a bit of a road trip, so maybe some of the Central/North Ca people can give their .02. Lummy? 'Bazz? skeletor 0 #5 December 4, 2002 if you're coming to Cali, fly into Ontario (not LAX) Ontario is only 40mins away from Perris and Elsinore.. rich.
TomAiello 26 #6 December 4, 2002 The closest DZ's to Sacramento are Davis and Lodi. They are equally close, depending on which part of Sacramento you are in. Davis is closer to the Sacramento airport, though. I-5 North of Sac pretty much runs from the airport up to Woodland, from whence it's only 10 minutes to the DZ (or my house). If you are driving from LA up to Sacramento, you'll pass pretty close to the Lodi DZ (between Stockton and Sacramento, off 99, maybe 15 miles from I-5). If you're driving from LA to Sacramento, don't forget to visit my favorite place to jump. Even if you're not jumping there, it's a natural wonder not to be missed.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
kevin922 0 #7 December 4, 2002 Well it's a free ticket and i don't have much say in that, also I may have misunderstood her.. she did all these airport id's.. LAS (i was thinking was los angeles for some reason) but it is in fact las vegas and return from SMF which is sacremento. She however seems to think SMF is 115 miles from LAS. yahoo maps begs to differ at 650 miles. So i don't know what the hell is going on :) i'll have to find out more tomorrow. Bleh. but hey, warm air rawks! it's supposed to snow here tomorrow
TomAiello 26 #8 December 4, 2002 QuoteShe however seems to think SMF is 115 miles from LAS. yahoo maps begs to differ at 650 miles. The fastest I've ever driven between between Sacramento and Vegas was just over 8 hours. The average speed on that trip was probably over 100 mph. Plus, the Sierra passes are closed right now, so you'll (a) probably need chains, and (b) tack an extra hour or so onto the trip.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
RevJim 0 #9 December 4, 2002 Favorite place to jump huh? You are a genius! You discovered a way to jump into a black hole, and return to tell us about it! skybytch 273 #10 December 4, 2002 Yup, Sacto is a long ass drive from Vegas no matter which way you go... How many days can you stay out here? Does your friend jump (ie will she mind hitting every dz on the way? ) The compromise itinerary (sp?) - a day and a night in Vegas (even if you don't gamble there is loads to see and do). Then off to Perris (5 ish hour drive) and Elsinore (another 30 minutes or so from Perris). A couple days around here, then head up the coast (use highway 101 out of LA). There's a Cessna dz in Lompoc, which is a ways north of Santa Barbara; don't know if they operate on weekdays though. Continue up 101 to San Luis Obispo, then pick up the 1. At SLO you're about 5 - 6 hours from Perris/Elsinore. Spend the night somewhere between SLO and Cambria; note that lodging (and everything else including gas) will get more expensive the further north you get, until you reach "civilization" again north and east of Monterey. Stop by Hearst Castle in San Simeon and take a tour; well worth the $$ and time if you like architecture, art, tapestrys, landscaping and/or gaudy excess. Continue north on 1 and break out the camera; you're heading into Big Sur which is imho one of the most beautiful places in California. Take your time; if you drive straight through, Monterey is about 2 1/2 hours from Cambria. Check out the city of Monterey (kinda touristy but the aquarium is tres cool). Cruise over to Marina and jump at Skydive Monterey Bay. Then cut across to the 99 and head north to Lodi. Jump at Lodi. When you're done there you're only about an hour from the Sacramento airport. It's a whole lot faster to go all the way up the 5 from LA, but that's easily one of the most boring stretches of road I've ever driven... and, well, lets just say it's not the greatest scenery California has to offer! Sebazz1 2 #11 December 4, 2002 Let us know when you're a little bit more sure about your plans and we'll take it from there. The LA area is all about Elsinore & Perris. In the middle and up north in Cali there seems to be too many DZ's to choose from. And all of them are good. And all that stuff Lisa said about coming up the coast n stuff... She's right... As always...
