freeflir29 0 #27 December 4, 2002 Quote stay between 6-10 over and you SHOULD be okay. If the limit is 70, try to stay within 5 over. Haaa!!! You aren't from Atlanta are you? The speed limit on I-285 is 55. The "real" speed limit is 70. Unless they are just really out looking for quotas. I have had to get out of the left lane MANY times because I was ONLY doing 80.... Zenister 0 #28 December 4, 2002 part of the reason staying in packs helps is because the resolution on radar guns is really crappy.. (200m on some of the lower end models) and in many states the cops have been slapped enough to not pull over one car that the radar cant reasonablly tell from another. Chile I LOVE you guys..18 wheelers have radar cross sections nearly 10 times the size of your truck..this means being near you (even passing) is grounds for questioning the accuracy of the observer (radar) speedtrap.com used to be a great site, even used route planning..(put in your start and end points and a time frame and it would tell you about all the active (meaning someone had reported it) speed traps along that route.) If more people had used it (by providing up dates whenever you were pulled over, or saw someone pulled over) states would have to look for another means to generate revenue. unfortunaltly they didnt get enough real traffic to generate funding and got shut down.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. wildblue 7 #30 December 4, 2002 Quote I-285 loop around the west side of Atlanta In a car, you don't really need to, depending on what time you hit ATL. If you're hitting it anywhere near rush hour on a weekday, then yeah, take the by-pass. Otherwise, shoot on through. Last time we hit stop and go traffic there, it was farther south than the by-pass goes. GA is pretty wide open. Don't be a speeding black man in TN though (I know Prof, you won't have a problem with that) - found that out last year. You can usually find a pack of cars heading south at 90mph on I-75 if you want to run with them. Get a CB and learn to say "How 'bout it Northbound" with a southern accent, and you're set. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
Mindcake 0 #31 December 4, 2002 I don't know if you are picking up I-75 in Ohio but if you are planning that route then 4 over is it bud, If you go 5 over they will stop you and you have to pay for the ticket right then...dont worry they accept Visa/MC and American Express (how thoughtful). Out of state plates...watch out they may pull you over on BS just to check you out (it has happened 3 times to me and I was never speeding). Good luck and have a safe journey Jim Don´t belive the hype

ChileRelleno 0 #33 December 4, 2002 Quote If you go 5 over they will stop you and you have to pay for the ticket right then. I've been ticketed in the state of Ohio within the last year and was not told to pay then and there, you can send the fine in or you can go to court. In Ohio if you recieve multiple violations within a one year period then a court appearance is mandatory. The practice of forcing payment of fines on the spot is unconstitutional, you are being denied due process, you are being tried, convicted and penalized... I could rant about this... This has been challenged in other states and found unconstitutional, Louisiana is another state which has been nailed on this practice. DO NOT PUT UP WITH CRAP LIKE THIS, TAKE THE STATE TO COURT, THEY ARE VIOLATING YOUR RIGHTS AS A US CITIZEN!!!!!! Get the specs and take it to court. quade 4 #37 December 4, 2002 Quote Come to find out "The World's Most Boring Skydiver" drives like a drunken midget on the highway...going fast, swerving, passing... Now, now . . . never drunk, definately not a midget and not usually using other cars as pylons. Normally my hands are safely at the 10 and 2 position. Head on a swivel and foot not -quite- to the floor. It's just that in SoCal you'll normally only get pulled over for speeding if you're doing something that draws a lot of attention to yourself -- driving a bright red Ferrari at -any- speed will do it. So, besides -me- being boring, so is the overall appearance of my car -- stock, white and plain.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #39 December 4, 2002 Well, let's put it this way -- it's a system that works. I think in the last 20 or so years of driving "boring" cars, I've gotten pulled over twice and only ticketed once. Before that, I was driving sports cars (generally a hell of a lot slower too) and was getting pulled over on what seemed to be a monthly basis.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
freeflir29 0 #40 December 4, 2002 Quote it's a system that works I know!! That's why I have an old Jeep. Before i moved back to Georgia I had gone 8 years without being pulled over. Now...I have been pulled over twice in two years. Once...I think it was the 20 MPH over the speed limit in a school zone that got me noticed. The second time the guy was just violating my civil rights at 1230AM on a Sunday morning. Said I was weaving...I laughed at him and told him "When it's accompanied by a turn signal it's called CHANGING LANES!!!" He didn't laugh......
mouth 0 #41 December 4, 2002 Clay, You must have been in front of me last Sat night coming home. Some moron was going almost 80 in the left lane with about 5 of us pushing him from behind. Even flashing brights never got this jerk out of the way. Not that I would ever do anything like flash my brights at someone. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. skycop 0 #44 December 4, 2002 The guidance I gave was general info while traveling on the highway outside of metro areas, cities are a whole different ball game. State Police and or Highway Patrol Officers generally don't run radar much in Metro areas, they concentrate on rural areas. Federal traffic grants sometimes change that. If there was emphasis on that in the areas you speak of, the average speed would drop significantly and alot of people would be out of some bucks! "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"
