jaaska 0 #1 December 5, 2002 I tried to find through search whether this has been discussed earlier. Sorry if it has... Finland, the great country of progressive taxing had a new law couple of years ago concerning speeding tickets... Short is pretty so: Once you get pulled over, the cop can in-real-time request your net-income with a SMS message. So you cannot lie about your income . So far the biggest speeding ticket I've heard of so far was around 50 000e (same in US$). Sooo... If you are rich and Finnish - do not exceed the speed limit... . Since I'm just a poor student, I always laugh my as off when a Mr./Ms. Big gets a new world record ticket! Kind of makes sense though... 200e is hell of a big money for me (hell, I can quite a few jumps with that money), but for a Nokia CEO or for a Finnish NHL-star that's just money for candy. I say hurt them where it hurts them most!
outofit 0 #2 December 5, 2002 no offense but i don't think i will ever have to worry about getting a speeding ticket in finland because i probably won't ever leave the USA again since9/11 It is better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool!
Unutsch 0 #3 December 5, 2002 hey, that's a pretty fine law in my opinion!!!! Check out the site of the Fallen Angels FreeflY Organisation: http://www.padliangeli.org
JPA 0 #4 December 5, 2002 Why would anyone take offense at that. I understand your fear, to an extent. Didn't 9/11 happen in America and not Finland? Wouldn't staying in the US be more of a safety risk? Then again, I've heard that those silly Finnish people have to cover their faces in vasaline during winter before going outside...I can picture those nudie jumps now...everyone already lubed up and shiny
konradptr 0 #5 December 5, 2002 Gee, I'm glad that AlQueda doesn't read this website- you would have made their day with stupid postings like that.... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
JPA 0 #6 December 5, 2002 Why is that mate, would my obvious stupidity somehow have conveyed a message that terrorism is only confined to the US, thereby giving Al-Queda the necessary mandate to strike somewhere else. Apparently I struck a cord with you for some reason, but if you are unable for whatever reason to use the comprehension skills required to determine the rather simple point I was making, then by all means consider me stupid. It wasn't complicated, in fact my point was almost exactly what you so eloquently put into words, that the US is of course no safer than anywhere else, and gee, maybe they're still a higher target priority than Finland. Geeezzzzzzz.
konradptr 0 #7 December 5, 2002 My apologies, MATE. I am stupid, and you picked up on that. Since you don't have a sense of humor, and I am so bored that I feel the need to respond to you, it would seem that, by my last posting, that it is exactly what the terrorists wanted. They would like nothing more than to have 19-20 dipshits crashing into a pair if buildings to change your travel plans for life. Enjoy your centralized, isolated life.... And just because my post came after yours doesn't mean that it was directed at you... It was directed at outofit's post- but if it makes you feel better, you can continue to believe that everyone is focused on you, and can't wait until the next thing that you post, so they can reply to whatever intelligent you have to say... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... nacmacfeegle 0 #8 December 5, 2002 "i probably won't ever leave the USA again since9/11 " In which case I would say that you have allowed yourself to be 'terrorised'. And that is sad, assuming you were willing and able to travel the world before 9/11.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. JPA 0 #9 December 5, 2002 Forgive me if your first post was in good humor. I have my doubts. You're still missing my point. I was saying all along that postponing travels because of the fear aroused by september 11 is silly. And believe me, my sense of humor is definitely still alive, why, your very last sentence made me laugh quite hard.

Damn you all, you just put Finland to the #1 place on Al-Queda target-list...And BTW greasing your face when it's -20C outside will only make it easier for you to get frostbite... konradptr 0 #13 December 5, 2002 Ok, let us all smile and agree that we still have our senses of humor... Can't we all just get along? If you aren't AMERICAN, you might not get that joke, hehe... happythoughts 0 #16 December 5, 2002 Is it just me, or does it make no sense to fine someone for speeding based on their income? Does this apply to other laws?
MyUserID 0 #17 December 5, 2002 Sure it makes sense. If a millionaire has to pay a $200 ticket, what does he care? No biggie for him. For the average Joe, however, he'll think twice about speeding again for a while. So ya gotta increase the amount to get that affect from a rich dude. ------------------------------------------------------ Remember kids, eagles may soar, but at least weasels dont get sucked into jet engines. happythoughts 0 #18 December 5, 2002 A friend who lives in California said that their car tag fee is based on the priced of the car, not the weight. A car tag is supposed to be a road usage fee. A huge truck wears out the road faster than a tiny sports car, but the car pays more for the tag. Politicians want to get more tax money from the citizens. They can put the law through easier because there are fewer rich people. It isn't about fair. Otherwise, consider this. If a person is a bum who doesn't have a job and robs a bank, what do you do with him. A nice heated cell with 3 meals a day and an exercise yard is better that living on the street. It is no punishment at all. If you are truly basing the punishment on the impact to individual, then are you going to let them go free as jail would improve their life? billvon 3,111 #19 December 5, 2002 >i probably won't ever leave the USA again since9/11 . . . Not to be obvious about it, but 9/11 was an attack against US buildings; had you not been in the US you would have been safe from it. There has been terrorism going on for decades throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia - 9/11 just made us notice it.
