The simple explanation is that Microsoft has/had a better marketing team than Apple and the technology to run on MS Dos was given to many to develop stuff for it as where most Apple things were done inhouse and not shared. Yes, I do believe Apples are a better system for specific task items (i.e. editing video, etc.) but as an all around system, give me a P.C. any day...
