Rush...... 9/11.....U.S. Servicemen and Women.............

Whether you like Rush Limbaugh or not, this is worth reading!

By Rush Limbaugh

I think the vast differences in compensation between the victims of the
September 11th casualty, and those who die serving the country in
uniform, are profound. No one is really talking about it either because you just
don't criticize anything having to do with September 11th.

Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because it says something
really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country.

If you lost a family member in the September 11th attack, you're going to
get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000,
all the way up to $4.7 million.

If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in
action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which
is taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving
spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of
$211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments
come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people that are getting an average of $1.185
million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough.

We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the
Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that
the September 11th families are getting. In addition to that, some of the
families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation
as well.

You see where this is going, don't you?

Folks, this is part and parcel of over fifty years of entitlement politics in
this country. It's just really sad.

Every time when a pay raise comes up for the military they usually receive
next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle
East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low rent
housing.

However our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a raise, and many of
you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one-time to receive a
pension that is more than $15,000 per month and most are now equal to be
millionaires plus. They also do not receive Social Security on retirement
because they didn't have to pay into the system.

If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7
you may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed
you in harms way receive a pension of $15,000 per month.

I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks
before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and
daughters who are now fighting.

"When do we finally do something about this ??"

If this doesn't seem fair to you, it is time to forward this to as many people as you can.

Thanks for posting that. As soon as I heard of the compensation deal I was kinda frowning a bit, but when I started seeing people on the news complaining that they deserved more money so they could cope with their loss better I wanted to do some serious bitch slapping. I mean, come on, I'm far from perfect, but crap, people think they should get money for everything nowadays. I don't want to belittle any pain and suffering these people are feeling, but it strikes me as screwed up to get greedy over something that's totally unprecedented and maybe a little suspect anyway.

Whew, I'll climb down off that soapbox now:)

it is truly sad in this age of litigation that human loss in this day and time now equates to monetary gain. i understand the need to help those who have lost loved ones in such tragedies to help with bills, mortgages and the like, but it seems like it has become more like winning the lottery. sad:(

People like to help out, but their memories are short. No one thinks much of sending money to help families of terror victims, but they forget when November rolls around.

Interesting tidbit:

Blood needed for 9/11 victims: 260 units

Blood donated right after 9/11: 600,000 units more than average

Blood frozen for future use: 9000 units

Blood thrown away: 250,000 units (the balance used for transfusion of non-9/11 patients and research)

I totally agree here. Not to minimize the horrible suffering as a result of the attacks, but tragedy is tragedy and it happens everyday.

I know 2 folks who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald that perished that day. The loved ones left behind are suffering horribly. But I do know that one of them lived in a home valued currently at about 1.2 million on Long Island.

Last May, my uncle who was like a 2nd father passed away fairly suddenly. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him and miss him. Yes, he did leave behind an estate, but there is no free handout coming. Stories like this one are one in millions.

Where do we draw the line?

Yeah, we do tend to have fairly short memories, and typically human, we usually seem to prefer a big flashy show that makes us feel better just long enough to forget. I don't think it's done on purpose, but it's done just the same, I think.

What this piece doesn't mention is that military personnel are automatically insured (unless they decline the coverage) under the Servicemen's Group Life Insurance (SGLI) program, which pays $250,000 to the family of a serviceman who is killed while on active service. This is a far cry from the average of $1.65 million that will be paid to the families of September 11 victims (and servicemen have to pay premiums of $20 per month for the coverage), but it makes the picture regarding compensation for servicemen's families look far less bleak than presented here.

The claim that Congressmen can receive lavish pensions after serving only a single term in Congress (eventually totalling into the millions of dollars) and that they neither pay into nor receive benefits from the Social Security fund is misinformation already covered on a separate page of this site. (As of 1998, the average annuity for retired members of Congress was about $48,000.)

Not everyone knows the sacrifice we military people make every day. I know several of my buddies from active duty who at 1700 (5pm) went to deliver pizza just to make ends meet. These are families of 4 and living in base housing where all you pay is utilities. We do get a raise every year of around $20 but that is before takes so do the math on that raise. Plus most pay grades have a max pay such as I for example, so I cant make anymore till I get promoted and that pay increase is only about $40 if that. You can ask any enlisted person who we serve and I can bet you not one will say for the pay in there top 100 reasons.

Oh, and let's not forget that families and victims of the snipers are also now going to get compensation as well. Where will it end? What makes them more special that someone's mother who is killed by a drunk driver? Etc. Man it really pisses me off. >:(

I don't believe that serving your country should make you or your family rich. If you serve your country you should do it for some other reason than money. I'm not going to get into the debate about whether the 9/11 victim's families deserved money. I believe that if we can help them then we should but we might have went a little overboard (OK, I got into it a little bit). We should make sure that service men and women's families are not forgotten though. We could do a better job there, especially the lower enlisted in the services.

Geee ... I thought this was going to be about RUSH, the world's greatest 3 piece rock band!

But Rush Limbaugh ??? blah

Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud
With fear and hope, I've got a desparate plan...

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!
