skymama 37 #1 December 8, 2002 Believe it or not, last night I saw the entire Nutcracker Ballet for the first time in my life. It was awesome! Of course, I was already familiar with the music, and I had seen bits and pieces of it on tv before (I skipped the Maculey Culkin version of it on purpose!), but I had never seen a life performance of it. What was really neat, was the it was a free presentation done by the ballet company of the City of Orlando. They staged it at an amplitheater, so the kids and I were outside under the stars, and the weather was brisk enough that we needed to cozy up under blankets (believe me, it's a novelty for us to need blankets, so it was cool!). My daughter loved the entire show. My son liked it up until the story ended. After the intermission when it was just all dancing, he got a little bored. Halfway through the show, I had to giggle at myself when I thought, "here I am at the ballet and enjoying it. Just a week ago, Cajones was sucking tequilla out of my navel. What a strange life I have"! We definitely want to go back next year. Do any of you have fond memories of the ballet? I know a lot of people add it in as one of their yearly holiday traditions. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

ltdiver 3 #3 December 8, 2002 Saw my first ballet about 10 years ago when my (now ex) husband was employed to shoot video/stills of the performance. It was a children's ballet theatre production and was very good! I was surprised that I actually liked it. Gosh, what is it with me and camera guys, huh? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
flyhi 24 #4 December 8, 2002 Saw the Nutcracker in NYC. Very cool. It's a real rite of passage for kids there. Also saw A Christmas Carol as a ballet in San Fran. Neat holiday tradition if you can do it.Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
Vallerina 2 #5 December 8, 2002 I love the Nutcracker! Many somewhat fond memories of it. As a kid we used to perform it all the time in the mall by us. A bunch of girls I went to dance class with were in the huge Ruth Paige production of it in Chicago. I knew one or two leads. I tried out for it, but I was really bad! I used to love going to other ballets, too, though. Hansel and Gretel is a fun one as well for younger kids and such. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
mikkif 0 #6 December 8, 2002 Oh, I love where I am now, but one thing I miss is the Boston Ballet. The scenery, the pagentry, the music, and the beautiful bodies doing amazing things in tight spandex. It a whole package, no doubt.
