Romero...heh

I've only seen screenshots of D3 in the gaming mags. I hope it's better than RTCW...:o

The computers I have here at home are not strong enough to do the game justice, so I shall refrain on even looking at it. (These are just barely good enough for Unreal Tournament).

The next system though.....B|

Anyone know if the newest games out there (such as Doom III) support multi-threading? I'm in the process of building a new box. Dual P4s. 3 gigs of RAM. SCSI HDDs. I run AutoCAD and Photoshop on W2000, which is why I'm building this one. They take advantage of the dual processors. Not much of anything else does though...>:( Maybe the new games will?

Damn. I am so wanting that game! I am crapping my pants like a ninja just flipped-out in front of me!

And I'm also waiting for GTA3: Vice City for the PC. Fuck the PS2, I want some new carnage for my PC. Now!

I believe Quake 3 supports multi-processor systems.

the alpha we're playing does not. one of our boxes is a dual piii 1ghz with 1.2gb of ram, and this thing keeps one cpu pegged hard at 100%, with the other sitting idle.

looks like the new engine is VERY cpu intensive (think floating point), as they are including features that are way ahead of what directx and 3d hardware currently support; software figures out lighting, shadows, and shading before it even hits the gpu. Note that the cpu work is done seemingly without regard to resolution, bit depth, and texture settings -- dropping these had no noticeable effect (frame rate) on the machine above.

i'm sure they'll include mp support in the release version. otherwise, there'll be riots rodney king style.

oh, and did i mention that this alpha's footprint is topping a gig of ram during gameplay???

looks like i'm building a new box soon.

I can understand people buying a PS2 just so that they can play Grand Turismo 2, but Doom III is going to tempt people to buy a new PC to play the smegging thing. I'm just praying that my P4 2Ghz 32MB GraphicsCard will be sufficient to play it at a reasonable rez.

I'm not sure me or my computer are ready for this game. I still remember when DOOM came out. That made me wonder if the game developers at {id} we're all demons an evil demigods.. That was intense enough. :P

J/K I can't wait!!

I know my computer isn't strong enough. We've all probably got a year before we'll see a retail version. So in the mean time I'm building a new system after the new year. Going to try an make is as cutting edge as I can. I'm sure I'll still have to upgrade just to run DIII. I'm still waiting on DSL or some type of broad band in my area..... (another story all together) *mumbles - FUCK SWB*

On another note EQ2 is looking like in graphics wise to be able to give DIII a run for it's money. In the graphics dept only. They are two totaly different genre of games. Some in game screne shots The game play is going to be completely redone ect.. Check it out.

dude, if the release plays like the alpha, you're boned (2.4GHz, 512Mb RAM, 128Mb vid... 15-30 fps,

i'm sure there'll be system settings allowing us to turn off some of the more cpu intensive features, but then you lose the more attractive aspects of the engine.

we'll see how it plays out.

Yup, American McGee's "Alice" is still in my top 10 games list. I thought it was extremely well done.

I still haven't been able to find a copy of Doom III. Grrr...

I have a dual Athol system with a Radeon 9700. If that won't run it, nothing will.

Still looking for a copy.

They're talking about the new Doom III. I've got Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition here, that I actually paid for. Awsome freakin game, for it's era. This is a new era, and it pails in comparison.

Are you talking about doom or Unreal Tournament?

The new DOOM, version 3. It's supposed to be pretty horrific and pretty amazing and just plain pretty when it comes to the graphics.

I have not seen it yet, but the way the gaming market is advancing in leaps and bounds, right along with the processor market, coupled with the age of UT, I cannot see how it would not be better.
