Weekend Numbers

3 really fun tracking jumps!
3 firsts:
1. I ventured out of Skydive Deland this weekend to Palatka and rode in a Cesna Caravan for the first time. It was cute, like a mini-otter...I realized how spoiled I am when all the regular skydivers mentioned how "fast" it was and I'm thinking, "This thing is SO much slower than the Skyvan.:P

2. First time getting a license! I took all four of my tests, A through D and passed them all and will finally have a license now.

3. Not really a true first, but first time in a long time I've been up past 2 a.m. Friday night we partied hard, jumped all day Saturday, came home and partied until 4 a.m. on Saturday night. I was SOOOO tired and had tried to hit the sack at about midnight, realized there was no way I was going to sleep with the HUGE PARTY my neighbors were throwing, decided "if you can't beat em', join em" and grabbed BZs pop rocks and stood on the balcony scaring the shit out of all the partiers below! Ha ha ha! As lame as it sounds, that is the most fun/laughs I've had in a while! One even popped off this bald guy's head! Another popped on this one guys shoe and he subsequently pushed his friend, all pissed off, like his friend did something, it was f*cking hilarious, after that some guys were on to me and carried me over. It was a lot of fun.:P

I never understood why jumpers would pay 4x for a license rather than just pay once.

For me its b/c I traveled ALOT and had to have some kinda progress to show each new DZ!;)
its easier if I go in with a "C" then with an "A";)

CONGRATS!!

OH 2 jumps, 1 mr.bill!

The weekend is not over so I can't post my numbers yet. But to address your question of why people pay more than once to get license, besides getting an "A" to allow you to jump at other DZs, the biggest reason for myself to obtain a license more than once is currency. As a student jumper you only have 30 days to stay current. An "A" License gives you 60 days while a "B" License gives you 90 days and a "C" gives you 120 days. If you can't jump because of bad weather, no money, no time (like being busy with work) or an injury. Those extra days can help.

Now here is a question for you, how did you get your "D" without doing night jumps? Oh let me guess you did night jumps, but as a unlicensed skydiver? Hmmm that sounds a little fishy. I don't mean to sound harsh here but you're pretty much bragging and putting down the rest of us who obtain licenses the way the USPA has said we must obtain them. :S It's possible to skip your "B" or your "C", but not both. You need to be at least a "B" to do night jumps (assuming you have your water training).

Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

But I am working on that First number...Marc is on his way down here right now....

You're working on it while Marc isn't there? hmmm.....;)

I'm leaving in a few minutes to go to the dz, so far i do have one first though. Yesterday i jumped without my cypres on. I completely forgot to turn it on before my first jump.

Thank you, wonderwoman;).

Canuck, I, unfortunately, have not had the luxury of traveling to many DZs. therefore, the few places I've jumped, the people know me well enough, my flying abilities, etc., to have looked at my log book and allowed the night jumps. Yes, I've had water-training, I've done everything properly to meet every qualification required by the USPA. I don't think it was safe for you to assume that I did anything "fishy", nor was it safe for you to assume I was "bragging" People post about their accomplishments, etc. on here all the time. I am very happy to be getting a license b/c not having one stopped me from doing several opportunities for demo jumps. They do demo jumps near where I live at the beach, all the time, but b/c I didn't have a license, I wasn't able to. However, I wanted to take all my tests at once and just pay one time. I see your point about why someone would want to get all their licenses, but for me, all I ever had to do when traveling to a new DZ was show them my log book, my USPA membership card, and they could tell by that, that I was qualified to jump. I NEVER had an issues with jumping at new places b/c I didn't have a license. It doesn't matter how you go about it. To each their own.

You do not need a B license to do night jumps, if you read the SIM you'll see that it states you need the 'B' qualifications - accuracy, jump numbers, etc... It's also possible to get an exemption from night jumps if you have problems with night vision. Finally, I know of at least one DZ that does not require night jumps for the 'D' because, well, they think it's a silly requirement.

30 lashes with a wet noodle.....now don't make me have to take away your Birthday!!!!

The really scary part is, i heard my dytter flatline on the same jump. I'm only posting about this in the hopes other people will read it and remember to do a THOROUGH gear check, including turning on your cypress!! I'm certainly not proud of what i did yesterday so learn from my stupidity.

hey I remember that water training with Tanya!

remember my comment when you asked about my tattoo?

YES!!! I forgot! Jt took water-training with me...while I always say I have nothing to prove to anyone and vice versa, this should add a little validity to my rebuttal to Canuck.

It's a personal pet peeve but DAMN I don't understand why people assume shit. It only keeps you from getting to know people who might be good friends to you.:P Not only that, but you not only assumed that I did something fishy, but that whatever instructor signed off on my license did something fishy, too. Not cool, Canuck[:/]

I would also like to thank the person who PM'd me, rather than flame the thread, for clarification. Very classy!;)

And where exactly did you come up with this gem?

I would suggest you learn a bit more about this sport and the actual rules regarding it before you take someone else to task, especially for a perceived infraction/irregularity.

In case you haven't figured it out by now, no one really needs any license; having a license confers certain rights automatically (at least in theory), but with proper documentation, a skydiver should be able to obtain those same rights at any DZ.

Having an actual license from USPA is only needed if a skydiver wants to instruct or compete under the auspices of USPA.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Congrats on the license!

How were the night jumps? Eventually, I'll need to do them and they kind of scare me. Not seeing the ground....YIKES!

I have more than found this to be true. Really, the only reason I was interested in getting my license at all is b/c of some missed opportunites for demo jumps. As far as anything on the DZ is concerned, not having one never hindered me in any way;).

LadySkydiver

The night jumps were fun, but because they were my first (I only did two) one was just a hop-n-pop and the other was a two-way on my belly, which I hadn't flown on my belly in a LONG time so they were both pretty uneventful, but cool, all the same:P.

I'm hoping to get another opportunity soon. :P
