My good friend Donna lost her 22-year-old daughter Kristin in a house fire today. I realize we live in a world where sudden death exists, but this hits me a little different. It's one thing to think about losing a friend, an acquaintance, a companion in skydiving. Everyone is someone's son or daughter.

But she's Donna's daughter. My son is 19.

Anyway, Kristin had entered a label into the Jones Soda competition. It's a picture of her mom, from about 25 years ago. If you feel so inclined, a vote for Kristin's entry would be a way to help memorialize a young woman who was making her own way as a peace-loving goth in Amarillo, Texas (trust me, that's not easy!). You can see some of Kristin at her website, which is linked from the contest.

Huge condolences to you, your friend, and all who knew her. I am so sorry for you all - it's hard whenever there is loss.

I went to the site, and I voted. In fact, I tried to vote twice, thinking somehow I may have imagined myself in FLA or something, but it didn't take. That's not to say I won't vote from the different computers tomorrow at the office...
