PLFXpert 0 #1 December 11, 2002 OK...I don't want this thread to turn into an argument, so as usual, I'll self-moderate my threads.... We debated this in school last week. I am a firm believer that the MORE EDUCATION someone has about sex, or anything for that matter, the better and more safe decisions they can make. I think if a teen wants to have sex, they might do so whether they have the education or not, but at least if they have the education, they might be smarter about how they go about it. Also, I think it's important, not just in middle schools/high schools but also in college. The reason I say this is, it is a known fact that 3/4 of women have never had an orgasm through intercourse. Yet, they feel there is something wrong with them. Most of these women, have had one via other means (oral or self-gratification). These facts are taken from several books/classes I took at UF, and yes, Cosmo confirms. Ha ha ha. There are many possible reasons, etc. I have my own theories that I can explain later. Me personally, yes, I've only slept with one man, but I've ALWAYS enjoyed it IMMENSELY, never faked it, and always been able to please him back, b/c I'm not afraid to say what I want, or to ask what he wants. I attribute this to being VERY educated in the area, VERY familiar with my own body and what/how I satisfy myself, and years of being a virgin, fantasizing, satisfying myself and figuring out EXACTLY what I like. Even in college at UF, our sex-ed professor, first day of class, instructed us, for homework, to go home, and stick our fingers inside ourselves and feel what goes on up there....I KID YOU NOT! THIS WAS OUR ACTUAL ASSIGNMENT! I personally back sex education in schools, 100%. Yes, I feel that it's the parents responsibility as well, but even a lot of parents were never properly informed and diseases, safety precautions, options, etc. are always changing and parent's might not be aware of these things. So what do you guys think? Keep it constructive, please. And yes, you are free to joke, hijack, etc....Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. misskriss 0 #2 December 11, 2002 I agree with you 110%...I think it's so important that kids be educated...I have talked to my girls about everything....wanted them to hear from me first before their friends put all kinds of weird ideas in their heads. We have a very open house about this subject because it is so important and I want them to feel comfortable discussing it.

wmw999 2,588 #4 December 11, 2002 School is a place for information, not opinions, when it comes to sex education (well, a lot of other things, too). And as far as I'm concerned, the more appropriate information (e.g. 8th-graders don't need a lot of information about positions) the better. misskriss 0 #5 December 11, 2002 completely agree....I know that my fifth grader starts sex education next semester... the kids have to have a permission slip to attend because it seems there are still many who would rather the school not be a part of it.... however... I still believe as Clay posted, that the responsibility lies with the parent....but then many parents are uncomfortable discussing it.. mY parents used to tell me......just don't get pregnant....so I did.. freeflir29 0 #6 December 11, 2002 Quotethe more appropriate information and thats where the problem really begins....."What is appropriate and when do you teach it." The answers are too personal and therefor public education will never work. If you have kids.....be a parent!!!
LouDiamond 1 #7 December 11, 2002 I completely agree. If your going to do something , do it right or don't do it at all.I also believe that practice makes perfect, so have a perfect practiceit's funny you brought this up. I saw a documentary on HBO on the bunny ranch in Vegas. One of the women said that men go there because they are afraid to ask their wives/girlfriends to do certain things or because their women WON't do certain things, blowjobs being the big one. I think having the ability to talk about sex with your partner(that doesn't include talking to yourself) and being educated on it will result in a better sex life and relationship. Kids handle anything you throw at them , if you teach the simple fundamentals of the human body and the reproductive process, beliefs and opinions aside, they will treat it just like they treat any of the other classes they take. I still whole heartedly believe that parents ultimately have the responsibility to talk to their children about sex. happythoughts 0 #23 December 11, 2002 Actually, I can't support the "parents should tell their kids about sex" thing for a variety of reasons. 1. Most parents don't know that much. Most of what they learned is from their limited experience. Nothing like a church-load of guilt to limit exploration. Think of the whole virginity-until-marriage crap. A lot of parents don't have good sex lives themselves. 2. Most kids don't have a traditional family structure. 3. Most parents aren't going to feel comfortable talking about certain issues with their kids.

mouth 0 #25 December 11, 2002 They teach sex ed in the school I tach at, but after sitting in the class to observe I have concluded the coach needs to get a life. I was laughing so hard at the stuff he said that was SO wrong. I had to take my daughter aside and correct almost everything he said. As a parent I strongly suggest you take the responsibility upon yourself. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
