FliegendeWolf 0 #1 December 13, 2002 This morning, I turned in the best paper I have ever written. It was for my doctoral seminar in music theory: Music, Theory, Gender, and Sexuality. The title is "A Sheep in a Wolf's Corset: Traditional Narrative and Heteronormative Reinscription in the Rocky Horror Picture Show" I swear, the more you watch that movie, the more you realize just how brilliant Richard O'Brien is. There are so many subcurrents and intertextual elements that one could write for years and never get a complete and encyclopedic reading. Then throw in the cult aspects of the film, and there is a life and half's work, right there. There are times when writing a paper feels like a constant struggle, and other times when it is just plain exciting, and this was the most fun I've had (or thought was possible) writing a paper.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
blewaway5 0 #2 December 13, 2002 I think maybe you're going deeper than I've ever gone in a term paper, but I know the feeling none the less. It's nice when it's not a chore and you're just having fun learning and writing. Good luck with the grade part of the equation Truman Sparks for President
Deuce 1 #3 December 13, 2002 Good luck with the paper. I've had that "Holy Fire" feeling more than once in grad school, and it had no bearing on my grade at all. Even if it's not a 100%er the joy of creation like that is worth it. And eventually you'll use regular words to describe complex concepts like heteronomative reinscription. But Deuce, how do you expect me to become an academic tyrant if I use comprehensible language? What I mean by "heteronormative reinscription" is that the Rocky Horror Picture Show, even though it has an overt message of sexual liberation, actually serves to reinforce cultural norms of monogamous heterosexuality.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
