freakshow 0 #26 December 13, 2002 I was dealing with this not too long ago and I talked to an instructor that instructed at 2 different dz and he said this QuoteA guy goes into a McDonalds and gets hisself a Big Mac and fries. He likes it so much he goes back several more times. In passing, he notices a Burger King about 6 blocks closer to his house. he figures he might want to try one of those Whoppers he's been hearing so much about. But he's feeling kinda guilty cause the manager at the McDonalds has been so nice to him. That McDonalds manager even lets him pay for those Big Macs. B.L. flyangel2 2 #27 December 13, 2002 I worked at a DZ for years and when we had weekend after weekend of bad weather, I never had a problem "suggesting" to a student to travel to a warmer DZ to finish the program. I don't work at a DZ now, and find that I don't really have a home DZ. I've been labeled an "event jumper" because I love to travel and visit so many different DZs. I suggest you go to a DZ that has better weather so that you can finish up your program and be ready for the season. If you have to make another trip to stay current, so be it. Think of the different opportunity you will be exposed to jumping at different DZs.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
DYEVOUT 0 #28 December 13, 2002 Hi Ivan I had to move my training to a different DZ because my old one discontinued training. I lost no sleep over it. While it's easy to make friends fast at a cool DZ, you are still there to BUY a service, and RENT gear, and an airplane. I'm assuming you work for your money, so spend it however you want. You'll make more friends at the next DZ. One man's humble opinion. ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court." FreeFlyHol 0 #30 December 13, 2002 I love my home dz. The people, the vibe, the love, the Saturday nights, sweating buckets on a C-182 in 120 degree summers...wait, scratch that last part. I'm luck enough to live within an hour from 3 dz's. One of them being Eloy, one the the skydiving meccas... right?! I do find myself cruising out to Buckeye, my home more often than not. It's not about loyalty, it's about family. Of all the dz's that I've sampled, for me, it's the place to be on Saturday night. On a funny note, I have to admit starting off at a smaller dz did make me nervous to leave. I heard all of the stories about "the Eloy skygods". "No one will talk to you" or "no one will jump with you"... b.s. I'm not sure if that's how all smaller drop zones are, but please don't believe the hype if that's the case. x's and o's, Hol :)When cheese gets its picture taken, what does it say? bobsled92 0 #31 December 13, 2002 Quote Poor Americans! You have DZs we have SKYDIVING CLUBS meaning free beer every tuesdays night with same good old jumping friends. And still we can go to any DZs we want! AMEN! I belong to one of the FEW "CLUBS" in the U.S. and YES Free Beer after last load up, every jump day! I think the CLUB is more of a home for jumpers than a BUSINESS. I did my AFF in '92 elsewhere but, it was because we didn't have AFF at our Club yet. >>>I LOVE MY CLUB>U.S.A._______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/
