Guest #1 December 10, 2002 I've been waiting a long time to see this. Now that's the way I like to see 'em...nothing like fury to warm your heart. Warning - not gross, but not for the timid. However, if you're upset by this, remember the people on those airliners and in the WTC and the Pentagon -- mh ---------------------- About 7 minutes long - I believe from Anaconda. Lessons Learned (assuming you survived): 1. Stay away from vehicles, buildings and cave entrances 2. If you're in a vehicle and rounds start impacting around you, get out and run like hell 3. If you're running like hell and rounds start impacting around you, lay down and play dead (if you're not already dead) and Most Important: 4. If one is close by, run, don't walk to your nearest mosque! Guest #3 December 10, 2002 The best part was seeing pieces of those damned ragheads flying out of the explosions. That was really satisfying. It would be nice to see a "C-130 Gunship Greatest Hits" video. The only thing that comes close to this is some UH-1 gunship camera footage from Nam that I once saw while in the AF, showing a VC taking a 2.75" rocket right in the chest in living color."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." freeflir29 0 #6 December 10, 2002 Spooky...while being quite boring to control in peace time is a BAD MOFO in combat. That was footage from the brand spankin new U model too. It doesn't have the really cool looking (when it fires) 20MM Vulcan but it does have a 25MM Bushmaster. Same as the one in a Bradley AFV. It can also engage multiple targets at once where the old one could only shoot one gun at a time. Another BAD ASS thing the new one can do is shoot right through weather. It has such good radar that they can "see" a person standing on the ground with it. It could be cloudy with a 300Ft ceiling and Spooky will still shoot for you. The only bad thing....VERY SUSCEPTIBLE to SAMs. In the right threat environment that is one bad bitch though. They should have given them to the Rangers in Somalia. There would be a lot more of them alive today. I just wish they had the audio from the controller to the pilot instead of the crew audio on that. I would probably know his name..... happythoughts 0 #8 December 10, 2002 My brother used to have stills of "Puff" coming in at night with red tracers outside of Saigon. It looked like a red porcupine. All these red needles coming from a central point in the night sky. Only every 7th was a tracer.
Sebazz1 2 #9 December 10, 2002 Why does it seem like they are firing missles at the individuals? Don't they have machine guns? Or do those rounds explode too? There was that one moment in the clip where it looks like they hit the one person dead on and it seems as if body parts are flying in different directions... Well it seems it would be costly to fire all those missles at just one person running down the road. Unless it was an enemy of great importance of course. freeflir29 0 #10 December 10, 2002 Quote Or do those rounds explode too? It's called HEI. High Explosive Incindiary rounds. As you can see....they are very effective. Now you guys know why I liked my job in the Air Force so much...

Guest #12 December 10, 2002 The AC-130 is equipped with a gyrostabilized, computer-controlled 105mm howitzer, guided by both radar and IR. It almost never misses. The calls of "Gun ready!" you hear are the guys in the back reloading. The 40mm Bofors cannon (converted anti-aircraft artillery with explosive rounds) also came into play here. I wish I could have been the one doing the shooting. Man, that must have felt good."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." You could hear a constanty buzzing sound as he made his orbit and you could see the constant stream of tracers arcing towards the rice paddies. Twas some sight to see. We liked Puff. Guest #17 December 10, 2002 There was one AC-130 that took a SAM in the Gulf, went down with all hands (14)."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
freeflir29 0 #18 December 10, 2002 They have two differen't models in service now. The AC-130H is the "old" model. It has two 20MM Vulcans, one 40MM Bofors, and one 105 Howitzer. The Brand new...yes...the airframe and all the guns/avianics..is the AC-130U. It's bad ass. Has the same radar as an F-15. It can "see" objects on the ground like people and buildings with it. It has one 25MM Bushmaster, one 40MM Bofors cannon, and one 105 Howitzer. Vastly improved avionics and fire control systems. Your tax dollars hard work. wingnut 0 #19 December 10, 2002 had to show this clip to the guys here at work........cuz that's what we do...call in the 130(and other aircraft) on targets...clay's old job............ i think the best footage i've ever seen was of an agm-65 hitting a antiaircraft missle site and the dude running away as the missle got closer....he didn't make it far enough away though......... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
