Vallerina 2 #1 December 16, 2002 Okay, kids, time to get sappy and reflect upon the past year. For me this has been one of the best year's of my life (not too surprising, I say that every year...well...excluding sophomore year of college ). I'm just curious how everyone else's year went, and the memorable events for you. My stuff: # of jumps: 300+ Most memorable jump(s): C-130 w/good friends, ten-way at Rantoul where I screwed up but fixed it fast, "last" jump at Skydive Indiana Memorable firsts: 20-way, 10-way speed star (from a high speed casa pass!), being in a trail plane (for a ~48-way formation), going "headdown" Other: graduating from Purdue, being able to hit Eloy twice, doing well (by my standards) at Collegiates Quote of the year: "I love Dick!!!!" (remember to use full name next time) Will work on for next year: get in shape (said every year), save money, learn more stuff, pass my stupid examThere's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

scottbre 0 #3 December 16, 2002 You know how it feels when the engine is definately running but you're not in gear and consequently not really going anywhere? That's about what my last year has been like. "Your mother's full of stupidjuice!" My Art Project
Iflyme 0 #4 December 16, 2002 I received a Christmas card Friday from good friends we haven't seen for a year and a half (they live in another area) ... the first words of the letter inside are "This has been the worst yaer ever for us..." Amoung other things, my friend's sister was inside the nightclub in Bali when the suicide bombers killed 200 people. Her and her husband (they were on their honeymon) were not physically injured, but will carry the emotional scars the rest of their lives. My year has been great -- but that certainly added some perspective ...
SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 December 16, 2002 This has been a year of many ups and downs for me. Luckily, I ended up way on top as far as my personal life goes. I was a slacker and only made 360 jumps this year and I didn't make some of the boogies I was committed to, but oh well, I had fun. Chuck
PhreeZone 20 #6 December 16, 2002 This year was simply the best one yet for me... Found a wonderful girl that I'm now dating, did 240 jumps (years not over yet), taught a lot of freefly skills to others, learned how to fly RW camera, did my first CRW stack then 4 stack then downplane, got my brother and mom to both jump once (granted I had to pay for both ), attended WFFC, did 2 balloon jumps, did 2 chopper jumps, C130, learned how to be stable HD, got invited to do full time RW video at the DZ, taught some one from their post student to their first 4 way that turned points, and learned a bit more about my canopy then threw it all out the window and got a new one. Things to work on next year... tapping into the savings to jump more, putting less into my 401k to jump more, getting some ratings, and doing a special demo for myself. Edit: One more thing for next year, finding a pic I can use as an avitar that I like Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
AggieDave 6 #7 December 16, 2002 I had an interesting and fun year. This year saw the end of my time in the Corps of Cadets (which was good and also sad), I finally bought gear, have made over 200 jumps this year, got my D, I've really begun to learn FF well, begain to really learn how to fly my canopy and had many many firsts. Next year is my recovery year. I'm going to recover my fitness and recover my Marine Corps contract, which was put on hold after I blew up my knee this summer, same with the fitness. I also want to pass 500 jumps by this coming August and have knocked out some ratings that I want. Oh and lest I forget, I will graduate College.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
skybytch 273 #8 December 16, 2002 # jumps - 130 (that's a huge amount for me!) Most memorable jump(s) - #917, 131 way FAI women's world record. #915, 132 way Guiness women's world record, California state record and Perris Valley record. #800, rode the plane up with my kid for his first jump ever. I forget the jump # but the 2 pt. 10 way dz.com record was pretty cool too. Memorable firsts - first 100+ way, first time on cover of Skydiving and Parachutist, first time jumping outside California (Eloy big way camp), first trip to WFFC Other - kid graduated from high school and moved out, broke up 16 year relationship, met a whole bunch of cool dz.commer's, finally got 12 hours of freefall and got my badge/pic in Parachutist, finally got a complete rig with a Cypres - and it's fully paid for! Quote of the year - Val saying "I love Dick!" For next year - Gold Wings, get better at sitting, learn to fly HD, do canopy control course at Perris. sunshine 2 #9 December 16, 2002 The year started off terrible, but improved dramatically. I accomplished so much this year. I've done about 300 jumps so far (still got a few weeks before the year is over). I got to give Clay his first kiss pass. I attended WFFC and had a most wonderful time with golf carts, shopping carts, alcohol, and even jumping!! Visited 9 differnt dz's, SGC is by far the best!! I met the most wonderful man in the world who i'm proud to call my boyfriend (and he even let me drive his new car). I met tons of dz.commers. I also made some of the bestest skychicky friends a girl could want. Including MK, Carrie, Jess, Val, and Karla. I've had a great year skydiving, but my personal/social life is what has made me the happiest. I'm so glad to have such good people to share my life with. Being with them in the sky is truly the greatest thing in the world. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! freeflir29 0 #11 December 16, 2002 Pretty cool year...200+ jumps, 1st jump suit, 1st camera, 1st eliptical canopy, 1st 360 hook, 1st kiss pass, 1st WFFC, 1st beach jump. Probably left a few firsts out. Over all, I had lots of fun. Met MANY DZ.commers. Visited several new DZ's. Through all the dumb and dumber shit I did this year I managed to avoid serious injury. skymama 37 #13 December 16, 2002 It was the most stressful year for me ever, but also the most exciting year for me in other ways and it was filled with a lot of firsts. Through my challenges and from the support of my friends, I have grown emotionally, mentally and spiritually but fortunately not physically! I'm most thankful for the amazing friends that I've made at the dz and on this site. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
jessd 0 #14 December 16, 2002 This was an awesome year for me. I went to Hawaii in May, graduated with my Master's in June, did a few tandems over the summer, and went to California is September. Hopefully next year is even better than this year was - I think it will be because I am going to do AFF in the spring. Can't wait. Jessica 0 #17 December 16, 2002 I think it was a pretty good year...sometimes it's hard to judge these things. It started out really rough when I lost my grandmother. But some really cool things happened, too: I met a neat-o guy, my dad ran for major public office as a dark horse and WON.... I got a lot more responsibility and a more interesting job at work (but no more money and even crappier hours!). I made 100 jumps, which doesn't sound like many, but is 100 percent more than I made the year before that, I went to a tunnel camp, went to WFFC...all very cool.... I traveled a LOT...one trip to Florida, three trips to Ohio, one to Illinois, and tons to Dallas. And I'm starting off the new year with a flight to Washington D.C. Skydiving is for cool people only
wingnut 0 #18 December 16, 2002 well this year started off great for me...was training for a new job, new job was going to be cool......ruptured a disk in my back..can't do new job....went back tocolorado to have surgery, had it, am better.... met a bunch of skydivers at wffc. made a helo jump on my 22nd birthday with 7 other dz.comers at wffc... sold off my gear to buy a car.... reenlisted in the airforce for 6 years and am waiting on my bonus to get gear again... am moving now and hopefully going to eloy.....allin all a good year with some sucky points...much better than the last few years though..........and looking back i think i'm getting old enough now to enjoy the littler things in life that actually mean so much........ ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
wlie 0 #19 December 16, 2002 Let's not forget that you also got promoted from Geronimo to Big Chief in the same year. For me: Started with the A, then B in the summer, and C this weekend. Got my first rig, first RW suit with all the options, first FF suit from KurupeeFirst skydive injury (sprained ankle after hard landing), first off landing for not looking before leaping. First boogie at AlaskaFreedom Jam. Got engaged to my love of 4+ years, and you're all invited! To kick off the new year, I'll begin with the opportunity to earn a coach rating. My other ride is the relative wind.

PhreeZone 20 #24 December 16, 2002 Hey now... no hitting on my girl or else there will be no more work done on the WFFC Video. freeflir29 0 #25 December 16, 2002 Quote no hitting on my girl or else there will be no more work done on the WFFC Video So you're saying that there HAS been some "work?" Is this work like my boss thinks I'm doing right now? Quote I had to remind Jess what happened since she didn't remember that hug. Cool....if she is too drunk to remember she probably won't call...and I can ignore her the next day and she won't get mad.
