Gawain 0 #26 December 14, 2002 Quote can someone define trolling for me? I'm not the one with the best answer, but here's a go since I didn't see anyone else answer your question: The word "Troll" itself has several definitions, but applicable to forums or news groups would be (American Heritage College Dictionary): Troll v. 1b: To fish in by trailing a baited line. and... Troll n. A supernatural creature of Scandinavian folklore variously portrayed as a friendly or mischievous dwarf or as an giant that lives in caves or under bridges. Basically, posts with no intention of getting a discussion started, only to "fish" in the non-weary in BS circle-jerk of conversation (perhaps posted by whuffos too)... I don't know...does that help? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! WFFC 1 #33 December 15, 2002 Quoteam i the only one who thinks that the moderator(s) need to gain some serious perspective here? The moderator moderate this private forum. There are rules to be followed and they are the judge, jury, executioner when it comes to messages that don't fit within the rules. Simply put, if they don't like your message for whatever reason, they will remove it or lock the thread. Their call. Wreck.Skydive is an unmoderated forum. i.e. no rules. post what you want there. fedykin 0 #36 December 16, 2002 ya know im probably not the only non-american who finds it more than just a little ironic where a nation that claims to value freedom of speech and hold it as one of its principle virtues is so quick to go to the opposite ... saying 'this is not a democracy' is a really lazy way of claiming a argument/conversation is irrelevent or you don't agree with it... every heard'I may not agree with what you are saying but i will defenend to the death your right to say it'. but anyways, im sure someone will just say' ra ra ra this is not a goddam democracy'. god bless america. AggieDave 6 #37 December 16, 2002 Dude, this site isn't owned by an American, so why should it conform to your pre-concieved notions of what the American belief system is? TheBile 0 #41 December 16, 2002 Everybody who jumps in this pool we call DZ.Com has a good time. We have a good time because the chlorine (the moderators) makes sure the pool doesn't become tainted with a lot of horrible piss. Nobody wants to swim through that stuff to get to the good, clean water. In summary : If you don't like the chlorine, go piss in somebody elses pool. Moderators, I applaud you. (Now where's my Beer ?!?!) Gerb I stir feelings in others they themselves don't understand. KA'CHOW !

narcimund 0 #43 December 16, 2002 QuoteHa, brother, on the quest to make people think? A lost cause it is. For all the bitching that this site doesn't abide by standards of public institutions, I've never heard one of the freedom fighters explain why private property should be held to the same standards. Jraf or fedykin, please explain that. No sloganeering, no chanting, no emotional soapboxing. Just explain with clear logic and facts why one is morally obligated to allow unfettered public use of one's private property (such as this privately owned and operated discussion forum or your own living room.) By the way, you've succeeded in making people think. You've just failed to make them think what you want them to think. If you can adequately answer my question above, you'll have gone a long way in bridging that gap. First Class Citizen Twice Over

narcimund 0 #46 December 16, 2002 Quote At least you weren't the "piss." Well, the purpose of chlorine in pools isn't to clean up the piss, but to inhibit bacterial growth. Piss is sterile and it also inhibits bacterial growth. So perhaps the analogy is just as good the other way as well.
