It's a quote from a NOFX song...

SHHHHhhhhhhhhhh.................

Thanks a lot Scoby; you blew my cover! :P Did you actually know that, or did you do a Google search? (Technically, it's the Rancid version of the NOFX song. I believe the NOFX version doesn't have the "in hell" part, but I could be mistaken.)

Ok this has NOTHING to do with any kind of sex, vanilla or not...unless you are a total psycho and then...well I don't want to know.

We spoke briefly of cats earlier...I want to know what they are doing when they "knead." I had a roommate once whose cat would do that on your lap, legs, head, whatever! My cat ONLY does it on a certain bath rug. Yes, I could just "Ask Jeeves" but I want to see what ya'll say. I discount the theory they are sharpening their claws.

This may be stretching it a bit, but when dogs go to sleep they walk around in circles a bit first. Deer do something similar. A biologist friend told me it was from a primal instinct, at least in dogs, to help them create a clear/compact place to bed down in weeds/high grass.
the cats could be something to do with a scratching instinct or maybe like the dogs creating a place to curl up.

Hey, Sis!

It's a leftover behavior from when they were kittens, kneading the mother's belly to get more milk out.

They love you. :)

My sister's theory (we discussed this very thing once): You see newborn kittens doing this when they are drinking their mama's milk. She thinks it's some sort of comfort thing; equivalent to kids sucking their thumbs. I guess I could see that... I dunno.

Edit: DZBone beat me. And maybe my sister was right after all!

i was way off on my theory. So does the "kneading" explain why my cat seems to love to chew on her paw habitually? it's not really chewing, but she's done it since she was a kitten. it's more like she's licking it, but ends up leaving a wet spot on whatever funiture she does it on. any ideas?

Unfortunately, I would dare to say that your cat chewing her paw isn't related to kneading...but maybe she wants to chew on your nipple? YIKES!

I think the kitten/milk theory sounds pretty solid. This cat was taken from her mother at 4 weeks old, far too early to be weaned. So she only got 4 weeks of that "kneading for milk" thing. (No, we didn't take her away, it was an accident at the dropzone and we took her in when she was about 5 or 6 weeks old - adopted her, so to speak. She was on milk replacment therapy awhile.) I agree that it (kneading) is probably a comfort thing, since she purrs very loudly when she does it. I can't figure out why its only that rug though! I would much rather her knead my leg than bite my arm (she practices on Perry and I like we are mice!). I mean, loving me is one thing but this chewing/biting thing has gotta stop. Moody told me about some stuff you can get to stop that but I can't find it. We found some stuff to keep them off furniture and drapes - it has garlic, cloves and stuff in it - but I am not keen on spraying it all over my arms and legs. Whatever it takes though. LOL

Back to the paw thing: Maybe your cat just wants to chew on something and is too lazy to find something else, and BAM! The paw is right there. My cat attacks and chews on her own tail. She doesn't chew hard I guess, no fur is missing...LOL but it is hysterical to watch.

Now if she would only stop attacking my hemp necklaces when I am working, I would be so happy! She of course, likes the string. I find myself going outside on nice days just to get work done. (yes that is all I do for work, make different kinds of jewelry and clothes, so I have to sit down and focus!)

Well, enough of the cat thing...CYA

Oh, when you said "chewing", I thought you meant "gnawing".

This is a total cat sex thing. When cats mate, the male does that biting thing on the back of the females neck. If you've ever seen cats "do it", you'll know that it seems pretty violent, a lot of hissing and biting, but they love it.

I have no idea why female cats do this also...
