What do you believe?

Recommended Posts

Don't believe the devil
I don't believe his book
But the truth is not the same
Without the lies he made up

Don't believe in excess
Success is to give
Don't believe in riches
But you should see where I live
I...I believe in love

Don't believe in forced entry
Don't believe in rape
But every time she passes by
Wild thoughts escape
I don't believe in death row
Skid row or the gangs
Don't believe in the Uzi
It just went off in my hand
I...I believe in love

Don't believe in cocaine
Got a speed-ball in my head
I could cut and crack you open
Do you hear what I said
Don't believe them when they tell me
There ain't no cure
The rich stay healthy
The sick stay poor
I...I believe in love

Don't believe in Goldman
His type like a curse
Instant karma's going to get him
If I don't get him first
Don't believe in rock 'n' roll
Can really change the world
As it spins in revolution
It spirals and turns
I...I believe in love

Don't believe in the 60's
The golden age of pop
You glorify the past
When the future dries up
Heard a singer on the radio late last night
He says he's gonna kick the darkness
'til it bleeds daylight
I...I believe in love

I feel like I'm falling
Like I'm spinning on a wheel
It always stops beside of me
With a presence I can feel
I...I believe in love

My other ride is the relative wind.

I believe that when my kids know I am not watching them they think that God is, and it helps them to do the right thing.

I believe they will move away from organized religion when they become adults, and they will move back to it when they have children of their own.

Yeah, a lot of my parents conversations started out with "I swear to God I'm going to..." ;)

Never pass up an opportunity to postwhore:

When I was at OCS about a million years ago, I thought this was really odd. On Sunday, the Drill Instructor says, in very, very bad Alabama English;
"How many uh Y'all Catholics?" -some hands-
"How many uh Y'all Protestants?" -some hands-
"How many uh Y'all didn't put you're hand up?" -some hands
"Y'all Protestants now"

Awesome. What a great point.

There's also the point that to "believe" has almost no cost, right? Well, if church was on a Thursday night (I almost said Wednesday, but then I remembered the Pub).

So it actually makes logical sense to believe, because if there is a God, and Hell, you are going there if you don't believe, and it will really, really, really suck. Yet if God does not exist, or there is no Hell, then there are no consequences or benefits (the loss of which doesn't matter because you no longer exist when you would otherwise collect them). Do the risk assessment, pay the small cost to believe, and you're covered on the upside and the downside!

I don't think it's that easy, believing is having faith. You eithier have it or you don't. I have faith that one of my two canopies will get me to the ground safely to jump again.

Since there is infinite theologies about god, good luck on choosing the right one. And may God have mercy on your soul if you choose unwisely.

True, but I bet 90% of "believers" do that math, whether they realize it or not. How many people do you know that are just keeping time, doing what it takes, tithing every Sunday, living good lives? How many of them are truly passionate about their faith, really go out there and live it? Give money anonymously, without an annoucement in the bulletin, a plaque on the piano, or their name on the addition?

You have more than faith about your canopy. You choose which rigger works on it, you took time and thought in choosing which type and brands to use, you stay current, drill, read about incidents and learn from them. Faith is an active process, not a state of mind.

Wait, did I say that? :P
