Man chases down car jacker

Recommended Posts

Quote

We have a pretty good police force that would never shoot at a carjacker in a residential area, because their #1 priority is the safety of the people in that neighborhood, not playing Rambo.

Thank you, BillDammitVonNovack.:)
There is a time and place to play Rambo, though, just not in the 'hood.

I am a "shoot the gun out of his hand" good shooter, unashamedly one of the best in this State. Running gunbattles in cars means somebody had a short-circuit in their wetware.

As much as I like to see another shit bag in a body bag......the law probably won't see it that way. It most states it's bad Juju to use deadly force to protect "property only." [:/] Texas not withstanding...;)

Agreed...Remember that Colorado has the make my day law...Remember to shoot'em in the front, then drag them back into the house...

Not even a cop, someone trained to protect the public using deadly force, sometimes at the cost of his own life, would try a high speed shootout with a man who was doing nothing more than driving a stolen car away.

Why should the cops go for the high speed shootout when they can take them out in the parking lot: http://www.southcountyjournal.com/sited/story/html/114320 B|

Word is the thief's dead. Now the shooter might get charged with murder.

Justifiable or not, I don't know how I'd continue living with the fact that I've killed someone. In a lot of ways, I feel sorry for the shooter in this sense. But I sure hope he doesn't go to jail or get charged with any crime.

That shooting appears to have been justified. Without the intercession of the shooter the cop would likely have suffered critical injuries.

That's how that decision tree works. Officer being dragged will likely be critically injured, I may critically injure him by shooting at the driver. When the threat to the victim equals or is less than the threat posed by shooting, you shoot.

And you make that decision in the blink of an eye.

I gave my .40 to my dad, so I don't have it any more...:S

You still want to go plink sometime while were in Eloy, if we can?

I doubt we'll have time, I'm jumping from load one to sunset Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

But I'll be ready if the opportunity presents itself;)
-Clay I'll see how much of that stuff I've got and I'll PM you.

Maybe, maybe not - another "what if". The deceased had no history of any violations of any sort and was unarmed. The incident happened in a crowed McDonalds parking lot with lots of bystanders. Chances are

My point was to counter the assertion that the cops only use deadly force as a last resort when all else fails. They make bad decisions and screw up just like the rest of us.

I came to this late, but after reading it all, I'm glad to see I'm not the only person on here who finds the value we place on our material things disturbing.
I'm one of apparently few, but hey.

Whatever happened to principal? People standing for what they believe in?

Reading the headlines, the shooter is now charged with manslaughter.

Quoting from the article:
While the use of force to protect personal property is legal under some circumstances, using deadly force to retrieve personal property is not, Costello said.

"The policy of law is always to favor life over property," he said. "The law doesn’t make any distinctions about . . . who died."

WTF:o>:(
