During the day wear a digital watch (must be digital).

why digital???

later

because it is digits, fine digits, much less likely to be coherent in a dream.

the most amazing dreamscapes are those that start where you are, thus almost an extension of your waking life. my digital clock scrolled my voicemail messages to me once and i knew it was going to be a good day!
namaste, motherfucker.

I learned how to "control" my dreams when I was really little. I have had nightmares FOREVER, constantly. Now I actually enjoy them cause they can be really fun and get my hear pumpin, but when the axe comes down on my head, I just turn into a superhero and kick the guys ass! When I was little I used to get so pissed off cause in my dreams, I could just sorta lean forward and start flying, or maybe jump around like gravity was really low. Then when I woke up I wouldn't realise it was just a dream and I would go get my mom and show her I could fly...

MOM!!! WATCH THIS!!!!
josh walks to the edge of the stair way...
WEE!!! OOOHHHHSHIIITTTT!!!!!!
Thump!! BANG! roll..."ow"

I didn't know lucid dream was the term for it but i have been doing it since i was very young. The earliest i remeber was trying to wake my self up form bad dreams. I used to dream i was being chased alot (still do really but now i don't consider them nightmares, because often i won't even have to wake form them) and i would know that i was dreaming so i would try to pinch myself to wake up. Usually pinching didn't work, so i would hit myself. That would usually work but sometimes i would wake up with a sore face. Now the chase dreams are some of the most exciting. I can always run faster then my persuers, and i can jump off tall things and glide and land soft. Sometimes i turn and fight, but fist fighting in dreams is difficult, like fight in slow motion, and you strikes to seem to have any effect.
One wierd thing about dreams is i don't often act different from my real life self and even if i know im dreaming its hard to convince my self to do things i wouldn't normally do. But i have had alot of fun when i can.
I also have alot of dreams about hostage type situations, where i have to take on the attackers and shoot my way free. Getting shot i your dreams feels really weird. I think i have played too many video games and watched too many action flix.

LOL! I've had many dreams where I was in an FPS game. Invariably whatever weapon I had would eventually turn into a mini flashight that squirted weird liquid out of it that did nothing. None of those have ever become lucid and it's annoying as hell.

Hey Michelle, the book that Hol suggested is the same one I have that got me into lucid dreaming. If you haven't gotten it yet then I'll add another recomendation. It does talk about lucid dreaming as a way to deal with nightmares. I've had only one nightmare that actually caused me to wake up screaming, and it sucked ass. I can't imagine having to go through that repeatedly. Try the book. I've had limited success but my motivation is only curiosity, so I haven't been very disciplined with my efforts.

Phatcat, you said it: it sucks ass....and tends to frighten my s/o if I'm in a relationship at the time (this happened a lot when I was married. But waking up to him was just a continuation of the nightmare! LOL:S).

I generally don't wake up screaming. Sobbing and moaning and trying to catch my breath. But I've learned that when that happens, I might as well get up because there'll be no more sleep that night for me.

For all you who've pm'd me and made suggestions, I really appreciate it. I've had one heck of a week at work, and haven't been able to research the suggestions you've made, and I will make it a point soon (I have to work straight through Xmas...). Thanks tons!

Ciels-
Michele
