Interesting topic. Yeah, I learned about it in Psychology class many years ago. It took a while for me to be able to do it, since at first I would always wake up when I realized I was dreaming. It's like I was excited at the prospect of understanding that I was dreaming while I was dreaming. Then, when I found out I could fly, it was pretty cool. :)
Then I had a few, but I quit doing it. I don't know why. I haven't even thought of it in years. Maybe I'll try it out again...

One thing you can do to prepare to have lucid dreams is this:

During the day wear a digital watch (must be digital). Look at the time, look away and then look at the time again. Do this repeatedly throughout the day. This will get you in the routine of looking at your watch.

When you dream and do this, it's difficult for your brain to focus on something specific...like the time on your watch. When you go to look at your watch the second time, in your dream, chances are it won't have the same time as before or it won't even be a watch anymore. This is a clue to make you aware that you are dreaming. Then you can practice controlling them. It's way kool.

If you are interested in Lucid Dreaming check out the book "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge. It's pretty much a step by step to get you "there". There's tons of other methods.

For my birthday my dude bought me some of those crazy glasses you wear to bed that flash when you go into REM sleep. I had a heart attack the first time I wore them. I thought I was getting pulled over.

Sounds interesting. I have pretty intense nightmares about once a week. About 2x a month they'll be so bad I'll wake crying and hyperventilating. Last night I dreamed my brother (whom I adore) was shooting heroin into his neck, and I was screaming "you can't, you're my brother, don't, you can't" and I woke up crying. Couldn't get back to sleep. they're always like that - but generally focus on my Pop dying (recent ones include him being shot in front of me, dying by drowning in front of me, stuff like that.) It can be tough.

Lucid dreaming may be a way to deal with this. I've tried pretty much everything out there in terms of meds, and some make it worse, while the others just let me go to sleep better, but don't stop the nightmares. I'll look into getting the book, and see if there isn't something I can finally do about it.

Thanks!
