skymama 37 #13 December 22, 2002 Quotebut do you remember which month it was in cause then I can try and get the backissue or something Oh, I remember that series. It might have even been in the year 2001 issues. It was a series of articles, and I want to say it might have been covered in about 4 issues. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

weid14 0 #15 December 22, 2002 Quote the money isnt the issue. Its what we need to do as in who to talk to and such to get permits and all is the issue more or less. but do you remember which month it was in cause then I can try and get the backissue or something the best thing to do is email USPA and ask them if you can get those back issues. The guy that wrote it -- John Eddowes (all around good guy and DZO) has Cross Keys in NJ, you could also ask him if he has drafts of it laying around. (I'm about 95% sure he wrote it). short version, check airspace restrictions, talk to every neighbor around before any hearings, go in with a business plan, talk to every member on the city council/zoning board, and good luck
akaGQ 0 #16 December 22, 2002 there really isnt too much of a neighboring community around the airport just some major businesses namely Brown and Williamson being the biggest. But as for talking to the neighbors...what the hell am I supposed to say "hey do you mind if we open a dz here I mean I want to say I hope you dont mind that there is a chance that someone may land on your roof or in your back yard?"- GQ ... it was the love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty ... -Charles Lindberg
rmsmith 1 #17 December 23, 2002 QuoteMe and a few friends have some questions that wed like to ask in private but dont know who here we should talk to. Outside of airspace restrictions a businessman wouldn't talk to anyone until they were handed a subpoena. Most people don't like "change" unless it's going to mean extra "change" for their pockets! The biggest problem is going to be the annual cost of insurance. The insurance industry has lost a lot of money in the stock market, and they have the benefit of being able to raise their without having the approval of any public commision. PLFKING 4 #18 December 23, 2002 Quote There was an excellent series of articles a year or so ago in Parachutist mag about start up of a DZ... the ins and outs. very detailed.... I don't have Sept or Oct., but the November 2000 Parachutist has the third and final installment of the series of articles you're looking for....A Place To Call Home, by Ed Scott. On a side note (for those who are new here), November 2000 is also the issue containing the interview with our very own Sangiro. Don
freefallfreak 0 #19 December 23, 2002 Don, How ya' doing? Hey, I have a neighbor kid (round and soft). You still using them for accuracy pads? If so, I'd like to nominate him as a target... skymama 37 #21 December 23, 2002 QuoteNovember 2000 is also the issue containing the interview with our very own Sangiro. Wow, I don't remember ever seeing that. PLFKING 4 #22 December 23, 2002 Not that I know of. "Interview" may be the wrong word. It was approx. a two-page article about skydiving websites, and about three-quarters of a page was dedicated to DZ.com. I think the writer quoted Sangiro about 6-7 times. They had a view of the then-current home page....I think it was the second iteration of this site......seems like the now-current version is iteration #4 or so. Let me know if you can't find it, and I'll send you a copy. Don
