Michele 1 #1 December 30, 2002 "You TOO may have money you didn't KNOW about....blah blah blah..." Several years ago, I ran a search on the web to see which sites have this kind of info... Here's one. http://www.foundmoney.com/ And yes, I have about 8 records of unclaimed funds (not for long...I will claim them shortly...). So does my father - his is something like $5K. So do several relatives in addition to Pop. I ran some names from DZ.com, and while it may be wrong because of middle initial or misspelled names, it may behoove you to check it out. I did this for a few clients last year, and found three of them several hundred $$ to several thousand (in one case...). Here's another site which claims to be similar, although I haven't played with it...it needs a registration and maybe a fee to access... http://www.unclaimedfunds.org/ Check it out - "vad coid it hoit", as my Pops would say! Michele 1 #2 December 30, 2002 Just FYI... the following folks here have a name match in the Foundmoney database (not to say it's you, but it's your name...) Clay Fowler Rhino Skybytch Luna Jessica Andyman Weid Homer Gawain Ironmike Bob/Robert Hanrahan(forgot your screenname, sorry). I also ran several others, and they did not result in a match...which tells me this isn't a database of everyone...and like I said, it worked for several clients of mine. indyz 1 #3 December 30, 2002 This smelled like a scam to me. I took a look around and found an interesting link, and an interesting quote: Quote While not an outright scam it is one of those services you can easily get for free. They just source out the free bank and government services and charge you for the result. If you ask your bank which agency ( usually the central bank or treasury department ) handles unclaimed deposits you can go to their website and search yourself. Try searching for "unclaimed money scam" or "foundmoney.com scam" for more info. I could only find negative or neutral reviews (the neutrals being similar to the quote above). This just smells too much like an infomercial to me.
rhino 0 #4 December 30, 2002 I've got a couple grand on that site?? Let me know if you actually get any money.. Then I'll try ;)
Michele 1 #5 December 30, 2002 Yup, I agree... Except, and here's the interesting thing...I found an account which was holding $$ for me that I didn't know was there. If I don't know it's there, how will I know to look? This website will at least give you a clue that there are things out there for you. If that means I then go on to the CA (or NJ, as this was - and I've never been to NJ, but it's mine, alright) state unclaimed funds (which is where it goes to), then I can start the rigamarole to claim it through the state, and not the website. The first site is free to search... Hey, don't bother if you're not interested. It wasn't an attempt to do anything other than share info that I'd found. Jessica 0 #6 December 30, 2002 QuoteThis just smells too much like an infomercial to me. What an odd thing to say. Are you suggesting Michele has a financial interest in this site? I really doubt it. I'd forgotten I had $75 coming to me from UTD. That's a 9-year-old deposit I made there. I appreciate being reminded about it.Skydiving is for cool people only
freeflir29 0 #7 December 30, 2002 Hey....and it only costs $20 for a search. I'll pass....
misskriss 0 #8 December 30, 2002 i saw this on dateline or primetime.........the ones they featured were very real......sadly.....i have no unclaimed money anywhere..
weid14 0 #9 December 30, 2002 thanks, I actually may have some $$ sitting out there, but I know for a fact there are more than one of me running around (well in name anyway) -- on even went through AFF at cross keys.... go figure. I wonder if he still jumps there.
Michele 1 #10 December 30, 2002 Rhino, according to the state of MI, there are two unclaimed items in their treasury department under your name. Dunno your middle initial, so dunno if it's you... Clay, it cost me nothing to search. Do you really believe I would waste a jump ticket cost on each of those listed above? Love ya all, but I'm broke. Wouldn't happen. "Foundmoney" allows you to name search for free. From there, you're on your own. You might start with states you've lived in and their treasury department. Every state's claiming laws vary, but it should be checked out. Jess - glad to hear you got a couple bucks coming your way...spend it wisely - on JUMPS!!!! or top ramen for your cutaway (that amount should feed you ramen for the entire summer! LOL) And no, I have no financial interest in any website. Cheese and rice, just trying to help folks out with info I found. So shoot me. freeflir29 0 #11 December 30, 2002 Quote Clay, it cost me nothing to search True....but all it told me was "amount undisclosed" with a "Click here for claim package." It won't give you any more info for unless you cough up $20.
Michele 1 #12 December 30, 2002 True dat, Clay. But try this link - it should take you to all the state comptroller's office which will allow you to search their data banks, for free. http://www.ohiotreasurer.org/textonly/t-treasstate.htm I would suggest checking every state you have lived in. You many not have anything there, but why not? And, that's free... hooked 0 #14 December 30, 2002 There really are unclaimed funds stuff. I would suggest you start in the states you have lived. It could be from deposits you have left for various utilities. But, I do know some are legit. I don't know about this internet site though. J -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings. Michele 1 #15 December 30, 2002 Yup. Checking some state websites for unclaimed property, bwilling and maybe ECVZZ (it's a common name though) has some. The link a few posts up should connect you to your state. Yes, I'm bored. indyz 1 #16 December 30, 2002 QuoteBut try this link - it should take you to all the state comptroller's office which will allow you to search their data banks, for free. This was the point that I was trying, unsuccesfully, to make. Nobody has to give any money to any of the unfound money sites (many of which are extremely shady). It's easy and quick to do all of the research yourself. That said, most of the people listed as having unclaimed money haven't claimed it for a reason, usually because they are dead, or in jail, or otherwise stopped reading their mail or sending in change of address cards. There were several hundred entries for my name at foundmoney.com. My own (free) search found that exactly zero of them are for me. My immediate family members also all had 15+ hits on their name. Again, none of them were actually for my family. I found this out in 20 minutes at Illinois' unclaimed money site, for free.
Michele 1 #17 December 30, 2002 I didn't claim my $$ because I didn't know it was there. Not because I'm in jail, dead, in a coma, etc. Nor have I moved frequently, had many married names, joint accounts, etc. Furthermore, the client I found several thousand for had inherited the $$, and had no idea it was there. These are all reasons I put the stuff up in the first place. My point was, and remains, that $$ is out there, possibly yours, and maybe it would be a good thing to check the stuff out and see. No harm, no foul. If someone has enough money to not want any more, they're in a great place, and more power to them. I'm not, and I think that others may be in my shoes...and I'm just sending info out that I've discovered as I discover it. O.K., so I didn't actually give you anything...and o.k., so you did the work and sent out the form...but Merry Christmas anyway! SpeedRacer 1 #21 December 30, 2002 fuckin'rawk on...I used to look for a way to make $ doing this shit...Here's what it is: if you've ever paid insurnce on a loan & have sold the property, you are owed the $ you paid. Many people buy a property thru an FHA loan & don't realize they're paying something like $50 per month to pay mortgge insurance, until they have paid down 20% of their ORIGINAL loan. but you gotta call them up & remind them after you've achieved 20% equity or they may "forget".... That's where these guys sleaze in and say..."Hey I can get you the money the government owes you....yadayadayada....." so basically they get the $ the govt owes you& take a 25% cut for themselves, give you the rest, &, when you could have gottenall of it yourself if you'd been paying attention. OK I just spilled the beans I guesss now the telemarketing economy is screwed now & the USA will now plunge into recession.Well the less extreme thing is to offer you a credit reprot FOR FREE!! but it involves aterwards paying them 50-200$ per year to receive a regular credit report. What they don't tell you is that in most states you can get either a FREE credit report or one for minimal cost simply by requesting it. It ain't so very mysterious. so why pay annula fees for a service you've already got for free from the government. Michele 1 #24 December 30, 2002 Poor Jim....poor, poor Jim. Just tells me you're better able to keep track of your $$ than I am....Ah, man, if I made $$, we'd all be rich! Tell ya what. If you ask really nicely, and ever cross my path, I'll buy you a beer. Deal? As for you, Lippy, I dunno what the rules/regs in Alberta are... And Speedy, the truth of credit reports is that everyone is entitled to a free one, once a year, from all three credit reporting agencies. It's a good idea to call in your birthday month to get it, and make sure things are accurate (birthday month only because it's easier to remember...).
