suz 0 #1 January 5, 2003 WTF is happening to the world? I just moved home with my parents, as most of you should already know, because I've moaned and groaned about it for a while now. Anyway! the only room I could move into was downstairs, and before I could move any of my furniture inside, I had to move all the old junk out of the room. Which took me a few good hours. The room became a junk yard, it had old wardrobes, an organ that I overheated when I was 7yrs old, which for some reason, my father keeps to remind me.() I told my father I'd take a few things to the local dump for him, and he said no, because the dump charges you $10 to unload GARBAGE!!!!! How ridiculous is that? I can't fuckin' believe it! I hate buying bottled water, because I believe that you shouldn't need to pay to replenish your essential needs. But having to pay to dump friggin' rubbish is just that, RUBBISH! Don't bother me, I'm living happily ever after

narcimund 0 #4 January 5, 2003 If I rely on other people to bring me water, then yes, I should pay for the service. suz 0 #7 January 5, 2003 QuoteIf I rely on other people to bring me water, then yes, lol!!! sure! I agree, because the only time people would bring me water is if I'm way too drunk to get my own...we dont tip in Australia, so I'm sticking with the fact that you shouldn't have to pay for water. Although, give it a good 20years, and it'll be a strange thing to have your water for free...Hell when you got to pay to dump rubbish, anything can happen! Push 0 #10 January 5, 2003 Some countries in Europe have an air tax (on polluting cars). I think that we'll see the air tax everywhere soon enough at the rate this is going. Just to pay for the clean-up of the atmosphere. It'll get interesting when you have to pay for air. And I agree with narcimund. The retrieval and bottling of water is a service, supplied by people. For those people, it's a job. They expect to get paid. If you don't pay them by buying the bottles, you'll pay through taxes. So I think it's quite fair. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Jimbo 0 #11 January 5, 2003 Quotedo you honestly think you should pay for water? Unless you're lucky enough to have a spring on your property then yes, I think you should pay for water. If youi're buying bottled water than realize that someone is paying to have the water purified, realize that those plastic bottles aren't free, realize that delivery to your local grocery store isn't free. Exactly why is it that you think it should be free? If you're drinking tap water then again realize that someone is paying money to purify and deliver the water to your house. I suppose if it makes you feel better you can think of water as free and purification, delivery, and/or packaging as a premium service that you must pay for. QuoteHell when you got to pay to dump rubbish What? Again you think it's free to operate a land fill? That charge also helps to deter people from just throwing anything away when it may be able to be recycled or reused. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. Faber 0 #12 January 5, 2003 Quote Some countries in Europe have an air tax (on polluting cars). In DK you pay les tax for les polution. When it started, the stat gave a bonus if you dumped your old polutin car,on a artoriced place(means you got aprox 4-500$ instead of paying 2-300$els..) I do belive that its the car industri that keeps us to the fuel we use today. There are made cars who drive good as other cars, but dont polute as much.it will allways polute some to make a kind of fuel, unless you buy a suncar, but thous dont prefom the same.. Push 0 #14 January 5, 2003 There are hydrogen powered cars. Their only significant exhaust is H2O. They make clouds. They're not in production yet though. Might be a little dangerous to drive with a tank full of pure pressurized hydrogen, but I don't know anything about how they're built, so don't ask me -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Push 0 #16 January 5, 2003 There are some very interesting things in that arena. Water powered cars, for instance. I don't think we'll really see any of them on the roads until fuel price goes to about $10 USD per gallon. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Sorry to hear that you are forced to move back home with your parents .. but I agree with Jimbo -- in fact, I almost posted just what he said ... but I took time to read all the responses before posting. Someone spent a lot of money setting up that bottled water plant, and the workers need to earn a decent wage ... and you can bet the shareholders want their cut, too! The charge at the landfill will should make us think twice about how much "stuff" we accumulate. Are any of the items in the basement recycleable?
