Derekbox 0 #1 January 10, 2003 Spider sense went off here... [url] Looks like to me like a hijacked ebay acct. to me... I emailed him - this is it+reply. --- "Derek Boxwell" >Subject: D60 Digicam on ebay Why so cheap?? $999 seems a lil to good to be true... is this a mistake? if no - will you do escrow? and why so cheap??? Im interested - but D60s are goin for about 1800... so just trying to see whats up. Derek Reply: Hi Sir I have bought the product from my uncle from Spain. He has a company who is in bancrupcy now and he sell all the products very very cheap because he needs cash money.Thats why I sell it also cheap because I want to sell it fast. These are the payment and shipping details: 1. It is beter for you to know that the item is brand new ,it has never been opened, factory sealed and it has 1 year international warranty provided by the manufacturer. 2. SHIPPMENT ---this is a thing you shouldn't worry about because I belive that it is my responsability to deliver it to your home.We can do it in 2 ways in each of them I am going to pay for all charges: -UPS 2 days -FedEX 2 days , It will take 2 days for the package to arrive to you.The shipping costs will be payed by me and i will also pay for the ensurance in case of any damage happens during the handling and shipping,so I will be protected in case off damages and you too. 3.THE WAY TO PAY :I do bussines only by Money Gram or Western Union wire transfer; I am sorry but I can't accept other methods of payment for the moment ,so look how we can do this, the fastest and 100% secure method for both of us( this method was proposed to me by a client while trying to get to an agreement and it worked perfectly, I use it since then). The payment is through Money Gram or Western Union money transfer. If you feel uncomfortable doing a wire transfer, I have a solution. You can do the Money Gram or Western Union transfer to my location but not to my name. You'll use a fictive name or one of your choise instead (your father's name for example). This way I won't be able to pick up the money. You'll give me the used name and the MTCN (money transfer control number) so I can call my local office and check the status of the transfer. If all is OK I shipp the product and email you the UPS tracking number. Only after you receive the package and make sure is allright you'll call Money Gram or Western Union and change the transfer to my name. This is the fastest way to conclude this deal and the same time is a method with no risks involved for both of us. Also I will give you my details and to know on which name you will change after you receive the product: FIRST NAME:GINO LAST NAME:SANTOS ADRESS:Calle Fuente,24 CITY:MALAGA ZIP CODE:29690 COUNTRY:SPAIN IF YOU CHOSE WESTERN UNION AND IF YOU ARE LOCATED IN CANADA OR U.S.A. THEN YOU CAN MAKE THE MONEY TRANSFER ONLINE AT WWW.WESTERNUNION.COM DIRECTLY FROM YOUR CREDIT CARD. 4.REFUND- If you are not completely satisfied with the product(which I am sure you will) you can return it but you will have to pay for shipping it back and no questions asked. Email me asap if you agree with my terms and we will have a deal! Regards! Gino So now if you look at the pic, the camera has a lense on it, they dont come with lenses. Plus he is right now selling 3 peices of expensive electronic devices cheap. Look at his feedback- all the members past auctions were for lingere... Smells like poopoo to me. D P.S. Ohh yea I find this highly amusing ;)
mountainman 0 #2 January 10, 2003 I smell poo as well. The photo on websites that sell the camera include a lens as well. That is why they say "body only". If you do that name thing that he suggests, ask the place where you're sending it if the person MUST VERIFY the identity with 2 forms of photo ID (one which must be gov't issued). The guy probably wouldn't be able to do that falsely. Remember, that is how I'd do it if I was going to risk it. I wouldn't risk it with that guy. Good luck, Derek... http://www.brandonandlaura.com
freaksister 0 #3 January 10, 2003 Perry told me there has been a digital camera scam on Ebay lately. He is always shopping for that stuff, of course. I would be extremely cautious right now. I don't know if Ebay is investigating yet or not. He read about it on Ebay the other day.It was a warning or something. that's all I know. good luck! PhillyKev 0 #4 January 10, 2003 If you're looking for a camera, a guy I work with is selling one on eBay now. I don't know anything about them so couldn't tell you if it's a good deal or not but it's at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30020&item=1949699428&rd=
freaksister 0 #5 January 10, 2003 That's so funny! We were just looking at that auction last night! Perry wanted to bid on it but decided if he won it he wouldn't have the money to pay bills and rent. Glad he chose the bills. Anyway, we laughed because your friend has a sense of humor (items not included in auction: The cat in the picture.) HAHA What a small world it is. lummy 4 #6 January 10, 2003 yeah, this is a scam... I was reading an article about the Western Union scam (MSN I think. I'll try n find the article) Basically, the seller says that you should send it via Western union under a fictitious name, but they can't collect it cause it's not in their name. After you recieve the merchandise, you call Western Union to change the name to the sellers. By that time, the money is LONG gone.....I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. freaksister 0 #10 January 10, 2003 Well, I will say that after reading that article, not all of us are that stupid. We know all about grey market items, we get catalogs from B&H, and fortunately have some sort of brains on our freaking heads. LOL Yes auctions can be dangerous, but not all of them are bad. Personally, I have earned all of my positive feedback the hard way. I think honest sellers are more common than dishonest ones, but you have got to use your common sense when you're on there. Simple as that. E-mail the seller and ask questions. Sis
AndyMan 7 #11 January 10, 2003 Do not ever, EVERY buy something over the internet using wire transfer, bank draft, or certified check. If anything goes wrong, you're hosed. A bit better is to just pay on your credit card, then you get some protection. Pay with your credit card through a proxy like 'paypal', you get even more protection. Pay with your credit card through paypal with fraud protection, and you're even better. My real point, however - is that somebody selling and asking for a wire transfer is 99.999% guilty of fraud. Real merchants don't do wire transfer. My co-worker was recently defrauded over his purchase of an IBM laptop. They took him for $2,200. He wired, they never shipped. Because he paid by wire, he was hosed. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
bmcd308 0 #12 January 10, 2003 Actually, I've heard lots of bad things about paypal, also. They take a big fee but don't seem to do all that much. Have you had any positive experience with their fraud protection to share? Note that I am not looking for "never had a problem", which is what I would hope happens the vast majority of the time, but I am looking for "I had a problem and they fixed it." ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
