Explaination and THANK YOU!

Recommended Posts

Alright, as promised, when I found out some answers, I would post and tell everyone what was going on in my life and why I asked for some hugs and stuff a few days ago. Bare with me for some background, then I'll tell you the outcome.

I was given notice on this past Friday (I didn't recieve it until Saturday night) that I was kicked out of Texas A&M, my grades weren't that great to begin with, but this past semester was bad. Due to the amount of hours that I have (almost 110) I wouldn't have been allowed to return to A&M after time at another school. Other schools may not have taken me, either, due to the amount of hours and my grades. This would translate roughly to all of my plans for my life being flushed very quickly. No degree means a lot of shut doors. A degree earned too late (I have to be under 26yrs old) means no Marine Corps (which I still have to bring my grades up from this past sememster to pick my contract back up). Taking too many hours as well as some other things contributed. On Monday, I went to a counseller here at Texas A&M, who is also a psychologist. She came to the conclusion that I still had very serious problems stemming from the 1999 collapse of the Texas Aggie Bonfire, as well as the subsequent loss of Scott West, who was a good friend of mine as well as a member of my outfit in the Corps of Cadets. She and I looked back at my grades and found that every fall for the past 3 years I did very very poorly, but in the spring and summer I did quite well. She came to the conclusion that the up and down trend had to do with depression and the anniversaries (Nov 19) were much worst times for me. She went to bat for me with the College of Liberal Arts because of this.

The College of Liberal Arts granted my appeal with her support and I am still in school and still a Texas Aggie! There are some stipulations, such as continuing with the counseler to resolve my problems and I'm restricted to a reduced hour load this semester, but that's ok, it looks like I'll be able to stay and work out some demons from my life.

Thank you so much for all the responses and for all the PMs I recieved. You don't know how much it means to me to see an out pouring of hope from my friends here on Dropzone.com. Some of you I've never met before, some others I have only met too briefly and still, with out knowing what it was exactly in my life that was going on, you were giving me support. That means a lot to me. Thank you!

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Sorry to hear the reasons that you've been down. Good luck! Hopefully working with the counselor will help you.

Wow.

Now it looks like you'll have to keep your priorities straight from here on out. I doubt they'll let you off a 2nd time.

Congrats and remember... study before beer and jumping. You can jump & drink all your life. You HAVE to get through college to do what you want to do.

Just remember that.

Congrats! :)

I go through similar cycles too. It amounts to fear in one form or another. Fear, I've found, is an acronym with two meanings: F.*ck E.verything A.nd R.un or (my preference) F.ace E.verything A.nd R.ecover

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Excellent news Dave. Remember, if you want to accomplish a goal "Failure is NOT an option." I had to pass my ATP, first type ride, first jet flight exam on the anniversary of the crash that killed 5 of my friends. So I know what it's all about. But you gotta do what you have to in order to deal with your life that won't stop.

Excellent.

You are at a very important point in your life.

Up until this point doors have progressively opened for you. Maybe at 16 you could drive, at 18 you could vote, at 21 you could drink -- whatever. The thing to realize is that soon doors will be closing. You mentioned age limits for service as being one. This isn't so much age discrimination as it is a fact of life.

Make sure you're on the side of the door you want to be when it closes.

Dave,

That is good news.

What you are suffering from is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The stress can manifest itself in so many ways that you may not understand. And it can also last for a very long time if it is not dealt with. I know, I was the victim of a violent crime when I was 9 and it wasn't until my adulthood that I realized how much of an impact it had on me. Stick with the counselor and talk this one out.

The only reason I am posting this publicly and not via a pm is because Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is extremely common and like I said can manifest itself in ways you would never imagine.

Best of luck to ya Dave,
Chris

Big Dave....

I'm so glad it worked out for you to remain in school. Put your schoolwork before fun at least until you graduate.

Hugs and weggies to you:P

I'm really glad that everything turned out so well for you, Dave! I remember having a conversation or two with you about how important school, and especially your school, is to you. You did awesome when having some obstacles thrown your way. Glad to hear everything will be alright!

I'm glad things are working out. And what the others have said makes sense, too. Remember that your plans are just that, plans, and they can change. But while it's hard to eliminate things from your life (even jumping if it turns out that way, though I hope not), you can always bring them back in after you've gotten something with a time limit out of the way.

Now here's another hug (((())))

Edit to add: You are Dave, and you define yourself. If you're not an Aggie, you're still Dave, and if you're not in the service, you're still Dave, and you're a fine man. I mean that. So figure out where you want to go for the next step, and how to get there. It's not easy eliminating the other things you want to do for now, but you'll do whatever you need to.

Congrats man. I have a small clue about how important A&M is to you (the Aggie in AggieDave is a hint), so let me say it again, congrats on achieving a just decision.

I'm not sure how much help I can be to an upper year history major, but if you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask. EMail: eugenee@myrealbox.com. ICQ#: 66061395. I'll do my best to help.

Best of luck to you.

I'm very happy to hear that things worked out. Perhaps it will all be for the best as well and if you do need to talk out some things (that you may not have even realized), you'll get the chance to do so now. Good luck, I know it'll still be work for you getting things back together as far as your grades but I'm sure you'll pull through.
