The Sultanate of Sartori
"Fighting for freedom in a world slaved to gravity"

UN Category: Scandinavian Liberal Paradise
Civil Rights: Superb Economy: Reasonable Political Freedoms: Some

Location: the South Pacific
The Sultanate of Sartori is a small, socially progressive nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 14 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level social equality free of the usual accompanying government corruption.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Religion & Spirituality. The average income tax rate is 29%, but much higher for the wealthy. A robust private sector is led by the Furniture Restoration, Information Technology, and Woodchip Exports industries.

A large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, military spending is on the increase, the government is cutting back on the number of political prisoners executed each year, and political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low. Sartori's national animal is the flying squirrel, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the wuffo.
