Oh, that is soooo late eightys. Early eightys was big hair and loud rock, late eightys was low, long hair and loud rock, and the 90s, well, I don't remember much about the early 90s....It's your life, live it! Zenister 0 #12 January 13, 2003 dude! was that a spector? and a rick? man two of the basses on my "to get" list...of course collecting basses has kinda taken a back seat to skydiving....hell except for embarasing myself in korea with JT i havent even touched a bass in like 4 years...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. pds 0 #13 January 13, 2003 yeah, of course one is a rick. thats what i played when i wanted a growling staccato sound but was useless when it came to percussive wrist work. thats where the sky bass came in. modeled after specter in that it has a concave body, but the shape and size was closer to the ibanez basses of the late 80s early nineties. that was actually my first effort as a luthier and ended up being my main axe up to the end. built out of tight knit flame maple wings and birdseye neck, ultrablack ebony fretboard, EMGs and more electronix than were necessary. story goes: worked in guitar center, came in on my day off to see a used specter on the wall, told homey to hold it, went to the bank and when i got back fuckknuckle had already called one of his buddies to come and put a deposit on it. So i went to arroyo hardwoods in pasadena, picked out a beautiful piece of wood, had them bookend it for me, took my box of wood in to work and bought a bunch of brass hardware and some pickups, gave fuckknuckle the finger and walked out. result was the most incredible guitar i have ever had in my hands. was never able to repeat, but got close a few times.namaste, motherfucker. Zenister 0 #14 January 13, 2003 definately liked the spectors, not as much as i like...strike that LOVE my Aria (deep green with tweeked EMGs) but still very nice basses....and i've been trying to find the right Rick for like 15 years...but never had the cash at the right time... dude, well have to get together sometime and bang out a few bars of "Big Bottom" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. pds 0 #15 January 13, 2003 i am playing a G&L these days, when i play. when i stopped performing, i kinda stopped playing too. let my creativity power my coding. anyways, i was more of a technician than musician. still am. i can play the shit out of something with strings, just don't know any songs. does that make any sense?namaste, motherfucker.
Zenister 0 #16 January 13, 2003 perfect sense, i'm somewhat the same, i can only really remember songs when i'm playing them regularly..hence the embarasment in korea...struggling to remember simple stuff like "break on thru"....mostly i did production when i was playing/performing.....sometimes running the sound board and playing...a few friends still insist i come back to the east coast whenever they are recording or have a big gig...some things i'm a perfectionist about...sound is one of them... wish i could figure out a way to transition to music production full time, but that unfortunately requires lots of cash or lots of backing so... maybe sometime later...____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
