Beeron 0 #27 January 14, 2003 Dave....hand position is the key to playing bar chords (especially in the lower positions...ie "F"). Try to think of your thumb and fingers as a vice around the neck of the guitar. Thumb should be centered on the back of the neck and your fingers should be close to 90 degrees over the top of the fret. It'll take some practice, but once you get used to holding your hand in that position, it will eliminate the "buzzing" or "muting" that you're currently experiencing. Hope that helps. Bar the first fret for first and second strings (from bottom) with index 2. Hold down second fret on third string with middle finger 3. Hold down third fret on fourth string with ring finger get it? Chivo 0 #42 January 14, 2003 Try downloading software from the web... look for Super Guitar Chord Finder. There are many others... this is just one of them. It helps you tune your guitar, and also plays the chords (so you have a reference point). You can select the chord, say F#7, and it will display how to put your fingers. It even displays 1 or 2 variations of making the same chord. And plays it for you (so you know what that chord should sound like on your guitar). It helped me when I started learning.
