Gawain 0 #26 January 14, 2003 Quote a big glass of V8 to my daily regime. Add some water to that too...V8 has a ton of sodium (37% RDA) per serving, which any normal person would exceed (especially with a nice, big glass! )So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! skr 1 #29 January 14, 2003 98% vegetarian. Sometimes out in the world I'll eat other stuff, but at home it's all plants. DJan is about 99.5%. If I were out in the woods in survival mode, I'd eat whatever it took, but here in day to day mode plants seem like a better idea. They're easier to catch for one thing. Schroeder 0 #31 January 14, 2003 Woo! Vegans in da House. Yeah, so about 5 years now for me, and things are great. And RichM, do I think being vegan is a luxury? No. Why? Because while I can't see starving ethiopians refusing any food, I also cannot see starving ethiopians believing that the 12 pounds of grains, 2500 gal. of water required to produce 1 pound of meat is justifiable. Or that 70% of US grain production is fed to livestock, for that matter.
payback462 0 #32 January 14, 2003 yes, but what percentage of that grain is fit for human consumtion
wmw999 2,589 #33 January 14, 2003 Fit for humans? The vast majority of it. Ask anyone hungry enough to go through a dumpster; they'll pick out the bad pieces and eat the rest. Tasty and appetizing? Nope, probably not. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. Schroeder 0 #34 January 14, 2003 I agree with Wendy on her comments, and would like to add, that the land that is currently growing these grains can also be used for growing more pleasant ones, and a host of other things. Edit: Just wanted to add that I think that this is a tragic, and irresponsible mis-appropriation of our resources.

Scoby 0 #43 January 14, 2003 I'm very much an omnivore. I eat everything that I can (stupid shellfish allergy). Actually, I'll eat shrimp occasionally, though I know I'll be sick afterwards. I try to avoid anything hydrogenated, but otherwise anything goes. I try to use olive oil, where possible. I love meat, but I eat lots of fruits and vegetables. I'm a big fan of cheese.
