kingbunky 3 #1 January 17, 2003 for corporate critters only! the backstory: my company had four teams under one team leader. it was decided from on high that the teams should be divided. the four teams were nt server support, unix server support, micro-lan (desktop support) and network support. they put all the micro-lan and nt server guys under one team leader, and unix and network under another. the new team was called unix support. so far, so good. someone (again, from on high) decided that network and unix should become a single team, with a single name. we tried to tell them that on a personal level, we all got along fine, but our job descriptions were too different to lump us together. they persisted to the extent that we had to attend a team building session to find out why we weren't functioning as a team. we finally convinced the consultant that there was no problem, we just did different jobs and therefore were not and never would be a team. she accepted that, but decided we needed a new name. while on a break, and as a joke, i suggested network/unix technical support. (think about the acronym!). my buddy brought it up when we returned. even after we pointed out the joke, she still thought it was a good idea and is presenting it to management. now i get to answer the phone and say, 'we're nuts!'"Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." riddler 0 #2 January 17, 2003 While working on flight software verification and validation at Lockheed Martin, my boss decided we needed a new name. My group was responsible for Computer Operations for our flight lab, as well as real-time validation. I proposed "Computer Operations and Validation in Real-Time". Ack was COVIRT, which my boss thought was cool, but didn't think the customer would like it, since some of our payloads were classified.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. PhreeZone 20 #3 January 17, 2003 Better then my place... I'm a member of the Information Technology Services group. Before we had a different name and to promote the new group they made up posters, balloons and finnally shirts for everyone that said in 8 inch block letters "ITS Coming..." How long do you think it took before people were rubbing the top part of the o off to make it into a u? And HR did'nt see that one coming....Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
