Sniff sniff

Recommended Posts

Look, I have whatever it is that everyone ELSE had in ELoy and ITS DRIVING ME INSANE.
I'm a nasty, feverish, disgusting, snotty mess and I'm not even functional for the first hour that I am awake.
Why can't this country channel all its destructive energy into something productive, like finding a cure for the flu?
AAARRRRGGGHHHH!
sniffle.

Hot Buttered Rum
Good for colds and chills.
1 teaspoon brown sugar in a mug.
Sprinkle in ground cloves.
A dab of butter.
Add a jigger of rum.
Fill mug with boiling water and
stir with a cinnamon stick.

Spring's Chicken Soup
Good for colds, stuffy nose, and soar throat.
4 large skinless chicken breasts.
4 mid-sized carrots cut into thin slices.
3 mid-sized celery sticks, cut into thin slices.
1 mid-sized potato cut into small cubes.
Flour, salt and chicken bullion cube.
~~
Cook chicken breast in a skillet or oven (don't use a microwave) until tender but still juicy.
Set them aside to cool a little while you prepare the soup.
In a large sauce pan add:
5 cups of water and 1 chicken bullion cube.
Add 1 teaspoon salt, carrots, celery and potatoes.
Bring to a boil and added 2 tablespoons all purpose flour. Stir for about 2 minutes.
Reduce to medium heat and cover.
Cut chicken into chunks, discard any 'fatty' attachments.
Add chicken to sauce pan. Simmer for 30-60 minutes. Continually check on the soup and stir occasionally.

The "Cold" Sandwich
2 slices of whole wheat bread.
A slice of a yellow raw onion.
A healthy serving of horseradish.
A slice of cheddar cheese.
Brown mustard and a decoration of
lettuce.
~~
A simple lunch 3-4 times a week can prevent the common cold.
Preventing Colds Before They Start
º Drip dry your dishes. Drying them with a towel can spread germs.
º Feed a cold, starve a fever.
º A clove of garlic can stop a sneezing fit.
º An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

My brother in law works for a company in San Jose(who shall remain nameless for now) who MAKES the flu vaccienes.

...HE refuses to take a flu shot. Should that tell you something?

As for making one that works better with fewer side effects, he also knows it possible but the beancounters won't let them do it.

(then there's my sister who works in reglatory affairs for another company and SHE tells me that even if you DO have a better product, FDA hoop-jumping makes many things impractical to market - especially when things like flu vacciene are produced at little to no profit already).

Get out the stock pot and make some good ol' fashioned chicken soup. Sit thee doon on your couch and nap till you're awake. Then watch a skydiving video and I promise you;ll feel MUCH better.

nevertheless my observation at my previous job (where they gave us free flu shots) has been that people who get the flu shot almost never get the flu that year, whereas a fair number of people who DIDN't get the shot do get the flu.

but I know a few people who have bad reactions to it, or are allergic to eggs (ovalbumin is used in creating the vaccine) etc.

I sold my couch!
I think flu vaccines are a good idea for those with compromised immune systems, since the flu could be a life threatening illness. I don't get them anymore because they're no longer free, also last time the Army made me take one I caught a different strain of flu anyway.
MissKriss, you are my new hero. I'm going out for rum shortly.
