Joe Jennings... SUV Ranch.

Just found this on slashdot http://slashdot.org/articles/03/01/18/2330242.shtml?tid=167

Quote

"A few months ago you ran a story about the cars my team and I skydived with and crashed into the desert. This is a bit of an update.

Next month, we're going to blow up my Nissan Pathfinder. Its twisted remains will be welded to a steel beam and planted on a plot of land in the mojave desert. We're starting "suv ranch," a tribute to gas guzzlers, a dying trend (we hope).

I intend to thoroughly document the project and will post images and quicktime videos on gaspig.com.

I thoroughly approve.

Sounds like fun!

Here at work I created a mailing list for energy issues (primarily CA power issues) and it invariably gets drawn back to SUV's. I posted something about how I thought it was great that people were spending their own money to put ads on TV that expressed how they felt. (www.thedetroitproject.com) One person here replied:

To put it another way environmentalism intimidation wins. I am quite intimidated by the flak I take for expressing the truth on this. I can imagine that potentially my job is at stake. Many powerful people that work here who are environmentalist evangelicals disagree with me vehemently on this topic. I have no doubt that they would figuratively stomp me if given half the chance. I feel I am taking a great risk in defending something that is politically incorrect.

There are some people who are really getting sorta paranoid about it.
