rgoper 0 #1 January 20, 2003 Just trying to get a "feel" for where everyone stands on this issue, as it could deal the U.S.A. some "serious blows" economically, and otherwise. i work in the middle east, as most of you know, i must admit everytime i get on a 767 400 series boeing jet, i think twice about it. what are your thoughts? i forgot to mention, i think we should be patient, and let the U.N. do their work. i have a 23 year old son in the military, and i think this is not about oil. i think this would have a devastating effect on our economy, as well as other nations economy. a "first strike" could provoke more terroisists strikes right here in our own country.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

nitrodan 0 #4 January 20, 2003 War although a terrible thing often has a very positive effect on our economy. I just think it is a shame that we invested the money to build most of the Iraqi army and to then go over and defeat it only to have to go do it again because we didn't solve the root of the problem the first time. Had it been done right the first time it very well may have altered the events that made 9/11 possible. Beerlight 0 #5 January 21, 2003 "Are you in the military?" __________________________________________________ Why does being in the military have to be a question? Yes, I'm in the military, proud to serve, still on active duty for 22 years, and that has no influence on my personal "views" regarding the the Middle East. The military does not, and never has started a war. Only civilian leaders are in position to give orders, and order the military into harms way. As far as your original question/response goes....(and I'm sorry for my lengthy response), I agree with you. Wish we'd sit this one out for a while, and see what happens. But, if we go in on a "first strike" as you say, I'm in, totally commited, hoping to have a steady hand and good aim.
rgoper 0 #6 January 21, 2003 Quote Is this about oil, or womd? What does a 'yes' answer to that question mean? whoops! ya got me there BillVon. i do hope we take the "wait & see" approach. more infantry were deployed today, 4th infantry from Fort Hood, Texas. my son will be next, when i saw him yesterday he had to go and buy 6 months supplies of everything, and be ready for a "4 hour call" be my luck when i leave to go to Saudi on the 24th i won't be able to get out, i don't think ol wyubya is going to give us a warning call, or send in anybody to get out the americans working over there. (and i voted for him...DOH!)--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

That's a point that people sometimes forget. A strong military does not mean that we're warlike; indeed, in the right hands it's a far better deterrent than weapon for change. I hope we keep in mind that having a strong military does not mean we should use it all the time.
