And I'm sure France read loud and clear what how you interpreted Rumsfeld's remarks.

indicate to France and Germany that the former Eastern Bloc nations that have joined recently do not share France's or Germany's perceived enlightened (and misplaced) arrogance on diplomatic matters.

Seems pretty insulting to me. I'm just wondering why exactly we're insulting our allies for agreeing with the majority of our citizens?

I think it's more of a warning rather than an insult. By citing NATOs growth within the former Eastern Bloc, we're citing the fact that these former Warsaw Pact countries are a lot more receptive to the new freedoms they have, and are far less tolerant of the butchers that used to rule them. This strengthens our case with Saddam in a way (as he is a butcher) in the European community as a whole.

The eastern European countries are outright thrilled at the NATO prospect, and the gaps that can be covered in economic growth hold a much greater value 20 years down the road than does France's or Germany's plateaued economic strength.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Yeah..that's much more important than the potential loss of half a million lives. ***
What about our lives. Maybe Prez knows something we don't know. We are not informed on everything. Maybe there is a threat to our country.

From cigars being used in a naughty fashion? That's what my reply was in reference to.

Well if Mr. Bush knows something we don't, now would be a good time to tell us or other countries not buying his vague incessant raging over Iraq. Bring out the truth baby! Tell us what you know. And if there is nothing else to tell I think we have a weak argument over attacking Iraq...

Maybe is not good enough. If he has proof, he needs to tell us (or at least other world leaders) what it is. If he doesn't have proof, he should wait until he does. If he never gets it, he should walk away.

From all indications, he doesn't have proof, and doesn't care. From all indications, he'll attack no matter what the reality in Iraq really is.

Im sure his actions are justified.

While I understand that in a time of war freedom of the press is a little more limited (e.g. "please don't dig there mr. reporter"), I find this to be a very scary attitude. If they don't tell us, it must be for our own good. Yeah, right.

I would much rather have a president that cheats on his wife and has kinky sex with his co-workers, then have one who seems to be obsessed with wiping out a small country.

He isn't obsessed with wiping out a small country. His beef isn't with Iraq it is with Saddham and his top 100 leaders that committed genocide against the Kurds.

Bush is not insane. He is sticking to his guns.. I'd rather have a real man in the white house that treats women "his wife" with respect buy not cheating on her and poking his dick around when he should be doing his job.

Bush is doing his job.. When his father first did this he had 46% approval rate in our country.. Bush Jr. has 56% approval rate AND got congress to sign off on it.. Let the man do his job. He has resources and intelligence that we can only dream of.

" Iraq has nuclear missles and they are going to use them on us " says President Bush ( as he smiles and says) " oh but no need to worry"

Think he would tell us this?? don't think so. We should be glad he has some balls and is using them for more then getting:P licks;)

You are on a need to know basis.. At this moment the President doesn't think you need to know.

Like I said, if not me, then well respected world leaders. If Bush thinks they don't "need to know", then there is something very wrong.

If he has information, we know he hasn't shared it with NATO or the security council, because they keep telling us they don't have it.

His father had world support because he had a justifiable cause. Bush Jr, does not seem to have that.

That's what they said about Stalin in Russia. If you are not familiar with the result of that a brief search in any history resource will tell you. You'll probably find it difficult to believe.

The founding fathers of your country told you not to become a sheep. I would listen to Washington first, Bush second.

the big dogs know it all, we know what they think we need to know . They will take one day at a time in telling us anymore, if there is anymore. (which Im sure there is tons we nor the media know.)

Only a handful of men (and women) ;) in a little room in the White House know everything.

This is a bit off-topic, but, living in one of those countries, I just had to reply. While 'outright thrilled' might describe some of these countries, particularly those that have been under Russian occupation, some of us are seriously considering not joining NATO, regardless of all ecstatic statements made by our politicians. Public opinion surveys here show that the support has been dropping for a long time now and if the US should attack Iraq, it just may hit an all-time low (and since this attack just might coincide with a referendum on whether or not we should join, I have every reason to hope that my country will not join that particular alliance. Economically, I think the EU is enough.)

That would be everything they think they need to know, right? I have a feeling Saddam Hussein knows more than GWB about what's happening and what exists in his country. And he probably actually thinks he has a right to his opinion, too :o.

They probably have a few gaps in their knowledge, experience, and judgement. Sure hope none of those gaps in either knowledge or experience or judgement is important. Some people not in the US have the temerity to think their lives are important, too, you know.

as i've stated in these forums before, there's sorties being flown in the middle east right now that we don't hear about over here for 2 or 3 days later...if ever. i've personally seen this with my own two eyes. if wyubya can't get support from NATO comission (never mind congress) we don't need to be fooling around over there. wyubya has said at least on 4 seperate occassions since i've been back home "time is running out for Saddaam Hussien" who specified the timeframe? who does this klown work for? us...right? i think he is overstepping his boundaries, and using idle threats against our own allies to bolster his "control" only this time, those countries that had to put up with all of the b.s. AFTER the gulf war are just north of that world region, while we're 9500 miles away. it's easy to say "sick em" but you have to be willing to travel there comfortably to give your blessing on this kind of crap. sure, Iraq has womd, so do we, who's monitoring us? surely everyone here don't think the space shuttles have been carrying "space toys" into the void? c'mon, think about it. these countries wyubya want's to desroy are already destroyed, they never rebuilt 100% the weapons they have could only be found if they want them found...and they don't. (that desert is a vast barren wasteland, trust me) so why not just threaten the world into submission to our will? i thought we were about destroying communism, not mankind. with the economy still halfway in shambles, and 09/11 behind us and the korean situation, just how many battles can we fight at once....alone? this particular president has the ability to be a "hero, or a zero" let's make sure he doesn't do something WE don't approve of. it's like a few of the others have said here, if we don't know about it, maybe we are on a "need to know" but our allies (if they are still our allies) are (should) be on a need to know. i tell you this, we attack, and it's not "politically correct" stay home, lock up your kids, you ain't seen nothing yet. these people think dying and killing as many as they can is a good thing, and bring the "greatest nation on the face of the earth" to it's knees is their objective, if provacated.

You know, if I had the opportunity to do some chick in the oval office, you can bet I'd do it. But I wouldn't kill 50,000 people just because they pissed me off. I think there's a difference there.

With out even reading the thread. The French have never done much more than surrender for us and the Germans only waited for US to rebuild thier world AFTER WE FREED THEM from thier OWN FUCKING nightmare! If it weren't for the U.S., Germany would go back where we pulled them out of socialistic bullshit against their own people that they don't like! WE DON'T NEED their help, approval or assistance in our quest to rid the world of fucking nut cases that unstablise the world for the rest of the free world! Yea, we ARE the bully on the rest of the world,WHY?
Because we are the only nation willing to spend it's own, so that there can be a world of FREE THINKING INDIVIDUALS allowing people to make decisions on their own without governmental pressure!
