Gawain 0 #101 January 23, 2003 Quote You know if people did some research on France and their influence around the time our country gained independence, folks would not talk so much shit about them. They played a big role in our independence from England. We would not be here in the first place without their help. And this whole picking on France for surrenduring thing at the beggining of World War II is pretty stupid too. Germany when they attacked Europe had a superior military compared to the other countries they attacked. Nobody had a chance. It is amazing how narrow minded and disrespectful some folks are to each other in these forums sometimes. That said there are valid arguments for war and against war. Now let's vote like a democratic world and accept the decision and move on. Damn barbarians... You are very correct in French aid to help us gain independence from England, remember though that was in fact a marriage of convenience. The conflicts through the 1800s would find us on opposite ends of the guns, including the civil war. You're also right about WWII, the French dependence on the Maginot line was a good idea. Unfortunately, we are not a democratic world. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Deuce 1 #103 January 23, 2003 Quote how would any one of you react if someone told you to do something you didn't agree with, and then followed up with threats upon your non compliance? Gee. That's the only reason I'm giving money to the State of California. If I don't they'll come and get me. If I didn't comply, they'd do bad things to me and my family. Yeah, I know, I could shoot it out with them, but they've got tanks and stuff

billvon 3,118 #105 January 23, 2003 >i'm adamant in my stance that we should not attack Iraq without >the consent of the UN and all of our allies . . . The likelihood of which gets more remote all the time. Today Rumsfeld insulted France and Germany in a speech: "Germany has been a problem and France has been a problem. But you look at vast numbers of other countries in Europe, they're not with France and Germany... they're with the US. You're thinking of Europe as Germany and France. I don't. I think that's old Europe." So apparently, only countries who are with the US make up the real Europe, which apparently consists of the UK and Turkey. Way to go, Don. Maybe he can piss off the UK next! Call them a fence-sitter or something.

Exactly. I'll support a war when I feel personally compelled to take the subway down to the recruiting station. If they had positively identified a nation, or one took credit for 9/11, I would have been one of the first in line. But I can't in good consciounce (I can't spell that word) be supportive of sending our troops to kill and be killed for anything I wouldn't personally do so myself. And I don't believe we have a just reason for this. If those of you out there think it is so imperative that we attack Iraq, why aren't you volunteering to lead the fight? rgoper 0 #107 January 23, 2003 QuoteRUSSIA, CHINA WEIGH IN Two other potential allies, Russia and China, weighed in on Thursday, saying they favored the go-slow approach of Germany and France. Both nations, along with France, hold vetoes on the Security Council. Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said there were no grounds “at the moment” to use military force against Iraq and that the crisis could still be resolved through diplomatic means. In Beijing, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said China’s position was “extremely close to that of France,” which wants to give inspectors more time to operate in Iraq and threatened this week to veto a new resolution authorizing war. The leaders of Germany and France repeated their pledge to seeking a diplomatic solution. “We are both of the opinion, and the French president said that quite clearly yesterday, that one can never accept it when it is said that ‘war is unavoidable’,” Germany Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said. “War may never be considered unavoidable.” i don't blame these world leaders for not wanting war waged in their countries, or near their countries, they've rebuilt them too many times. geographically, they're way closer than we are to Iraq, it's easy to destroy a country that's 9500 miles away, but it's a different matter when your just to the north, or just to the south. Turkey is considering refusing the US access to their facilities to avoid giving the US a norhtern advantage. and the beat goes on.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"
