dterrick 0 #1 January 24, 2003 Looks like I'll be visiting my sis and her husband in the bay area at the beginning of March. Neither Karin nor Mike care to be more than 'very sympatheric whuffos' while I'm their guest but a compromise has been agreed to - we're going skiing for a weekend at Tahoe. Mike will need lessons and Karin's not skiied for 10 years. I was hardcore once upon a time but a car accident in '95 put an end to that and I've not been on the boards since (well, once). Any suggestions on which resort given our limited time? I'm more into GS than moguls and would like to share some gentle slope time with the family. Finances permitting, I may even get a jump or 2 in. (sorry to get my priorities mixed up) Help or comments? BoobieCootie 0 #2 January 24, 2003 Go to Heavnly. You won't regret it. Then head over to the Nevada side and pig out at the buffets.
weid14 0 #3 January 24, 2003 when are you going? I'm going to meet my brother there last weekend in February.... I think I'll fly into Reno. You really can't go wrong at any resort around the lake Heavenly, Kirkwood, etc. THey have gotten absolutely dumped on this year so far.

jose 0 #5 January 24, 2003 Go to Hope Valley and go snowmobiling. Took a private guide there with wife on honeymoon and had a friggin blast. I never knew that snowmobile could go 65 MPH.

Those guys are slightly off their rocker.
BikerBabe 0 #7 January 24, 2003 SQUAW VALLEY SQUAW VALLEY SQUAW VALLEY! Um, OK...we really liked Squaw Valley. Big, wide open terrain and good snow. Heavenly was nice, but it follows the "steeper upper-mountain, flatter lower mountain" pattern, and we aren't as into that. We like steep, long runs. Check out Squaw...it rocks.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
lummy 4 #8 January 24, 2003 Depends on where in Tahoe you are going and WHY you are going. South Shore= Tourists and Gambling North Shore= skiing If you're going to South Shore, Heavenly will be the closest but also the most crowded. Kirkwood is about half n hour south and is really cool. If you're going to the North Shore, I'd recommend Homewood which is a smaller resort just south of Tahoe City. Prices are cheaper, the runs are way cool although their blue runs are on the uppser side of ADVANCED skiing. You also have Squaw Valley which is cool. I've never been to Alpine Meadows, Boreal, Northstar or Sugar Bowl but they are all really close to each other.. OTher Option, if you go to Reno, Mt Rose is REALLY inexpensive and is good Oh , and if you come back early enough, Take 505 North (off of 80), get off at Rd 29 and make a right. Rd 29 will bend to the left, follow the bend. The second right is the airport Rd. You'll see the signs for SkyDance Skydiving (530.753.2651)I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Skiing will come right back to you. I quit once for around twenty years. My daughter was starting up a few years ago so I went with her down one of the most challenging runs they had, and it came right back to me. I ended up getting hooked all over again. jumperconway 0 #10 January 24, 2003 I agree with Bikerbabe, Squaw Valley rocks, Heavenly is OK but Squaw is more fun and you're on the north shore to begin with!
