Badness in the neighborhood

Recommended Posts

I live in a very normal US suburban neighborhood. Trees, houses, deed restrictions -- all that. Today a 14-year-old boy about 3 blocks from me, on my street, was kidnapped from in front of his house by 4 people in a car. They were wearing ski masks and gloves. Apparently they used a baseball bat. I've heard rumors of a ransom being sought.

There are police cars and news vans in the soccer field parking lot 4 houses down. People are driving by almost constantly.

Regardless, I'd like to ask that whatever happened and why, that people keep Albert Villarreal in their thoughts tonight.

I will keep him in my thoughts for sure. What a horrible incident. Things like that just really freak me out. I mean, come on now, children are no longer safe in front of their own homes.

They're keeping it pretty close to the chest. The newspaper is Houston Chronicle. Shane Williams (mentioned in the story) lives across the street from me, and his mom is going to be pissed when she learns that a family friend who was watching her boys is the "guardian!"

This really doesn't have the earmarks of your "standard" (as if there is such a thing) kidnapping. This isn't the kind of neighborhood that justifies kidnapping for huge sums of money. Regardless, he's a 14-year-old boy.

The boy showed up last night in a taxi about a mile from his house. Something seriously weird is going on, and obviously the police aren't sharing anything until they know something.

But he safe, and home. Those are good things. I'm assuming he was a pawn in something, and I just hope they get their shit settled.

Glad to hear he's safe. I have three kids of my own, they live in NY with thier Mom. If something were to happen to one of them- well, I'd probably be in jail for manslaughter, at least.
And whatever is behind this- It sounds weird. I too hope it gets settled!
Good thoughts to all involved!

Glad to hear he's safe...without a doubt a parents worst nightmare.
Sounds we live in the same kind of place...I'm a bit north of Houston...went to our kids D.A.R.E. graduation last night...rather shocking to hear what REALLY goes on out there---what doesn't make the papres!
