greatgun 0 #1 January 28, 2003 I was caught by the police for speeding. I was driving 39m/h and the speed limit is 25m/h. I was asked to appear in the court. I never exceed the speed limits, but I just came out of the house and turned left and trying to balance my speed. But unfortunately I got caught. There was a slope too.. :( What are the possibilities for me to come out of this without having any points/fine? Please suggest me on this? Thanks,
quade 4 #2 January 28, 2003 I don't know how it works in Oregon, but in California, traffic school is a great option.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
jessd 0 #3 January 28, 2003 Not sure how it is in OR, but I got my second ticket last summer in MA. I was turning where I wasn't supposed to. I went to court and they dropped the fine completely. I had only had on other ticket about 6-years before that. I don't think that one is on my driving record any more though. Your chances may be pretty good. darkvapor 0 #4 January 28, 2003 Know your rights. You have a right to request the last calibration of the radar/speed detection device. You have the right to request the last marksmanship report of the officer who used the device on you (after all, they have to be able to pick your car out on a busy street). You have rights to request other documents. If any of these documents are not provided, are not current, or the officer doesn't report to court to argue the county's side, then the judge will throw out the case. It's not a sure fire way to beat the fine, but you can't let a system that doesn't uphold their side win either.
Zenister 0 #5 January 28, 2003 based on your breif description, no. if you were easily targeted by his radar/laser and there is no question that your vehicle is the one he was measuring....well go to traffic school, if youve got a good instructor you'll actually learn something too..____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Gawain 0 #6 January 28, 2003 I got busted in Oregon (Curry County) a little over a year-and-a-half ago by a state trooper (72mph in a 55mph). I was on a state highway. Oregon, to my knowledge, does not have a points system. It takes three tickets for something to show up on your record for three years. I too was asked to appear, I think because I was doing more than 10 over the posted speed. I spoke to the clerk and she advised me that there were no points for speeding tickets. I paid a reduced fine, pleaded no contest, and nothing showed up on my record. I'd ask around, but you're probably okay. If you we nabbed by a local, and there are no points to worry about, then plea no contest and pay the fee. Locals usually get paid to appear. If you have to attend a hearing with a judge, request the following option, if available: Request a withholding of judication. This allows the state to keep the file open for a year. If you're clean after that, they drop it. If you get stung again, they get you with both tickets. I like that option because very rarely does one get ticketed that frequently (statistically speaking per se). If you find that a hearing with a judge is in order, and withheld judgements aren't an option, PM me, and I can give you some solid pointers. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
